Situated in the historic village of Aylesford, The Hengist is a modern restaurant and bar, a short walk from the river's edge.

The 16th Century building stands with original features, offering a perfect balance of elegance, heritage and modernity all surrounded by manicured gardens.

The Hengist offers a range of dining options including a casual dining option on the ground floor and two more formal dining rooms upstairs along with outside terrace dining inour gardens.

We offer seasonal 'a la carte and 'set' menus along with a 'Sunday lunch' menu. All of our dishes are freshly made to order with locally sourced ingredients.

Our first trip since it reopened. Wasn’t disappointed. Food great. Cocktails fab - tasted as good as they looked. They’ve done really well to reopen and now have a new chef whose doing great food.

We had a group of 10 people who all had lovely food, delicious cocktails and mocktails and desserts that were so special. We were made to feel welcome and the service was really good. So happy to see the restaurant open again and with such a great ambience.

Disappointed with the warm bread and butter it was not homemade or warm, it was literally a farm house loaf sliced thinly, the butter was rock hard and because the bread was so thin, when trying to spread the butter it would just rip the bread.

The food was delicious and to a great standard but the meal was rushed we was there for 40 minutes for two courses . And would had like more time between starters and mains. Also a young male server was rude to my partner also when we mentioned this.

Highs and lows. Booked on line for lunch Sunday. Arrived a little early but they were happy to sit us upstairs. We ordered the cocktails and waited a while to oder the meal. Eventually got to order. I ordered the mix of beef and lamb with no gravy. Mine then arrived with Gravy! The beef was medium not the rare I asked for, plus it had a little too much fat for my taste. It was medium quality beef. The lamb was a bit overcooked too. On the booking I put NO cheese, two of the three vegetables had cheese on. Wasn't excited by desserts so left. On the bill my partners lamb was charged as Pork, which was interesting as pork wasn't on the menu! It has potential but service needs to he pulled up by the bootstraps. Waiter couldn't tell us what one of the vegetable dishes even was. Toilets ok. Ps cocktails were unquestionably the highlight

Nice to see The Hengist open again. Fantastic food, although quite pricey. Very limited alcohol free beers, which is a bit short sighted given that most people will drive. Service was excellent until we wanted coffee, when it was slow to place an order and then we had to remind them befire it eventually arrived
