Soak up our friendly service and homely charm when nestled in the seaside town of Wells-next-the-Sea. Here at The Golden Fleece, we are the perfect dog friendly retreat to sit back, relax and indulge in our delicious food with the perfect drink in hand.

Our passion for food takes our menu to another level. Our traditional pub classics are expertly crafted whilst our world inspired dishes will have you coming back time and time again! Using the most seasonal ingredients and decadent flavours, there’s a dish for every desire.

Sit amongst the history in our Grade II listed building where you can enjoy a tipple where contemporary meets cosy and our head turning reclaimed staircase, taken from a 17th Century galleon shipwreck, it continues to amaze visitors and locals alike.

A warm friendly pub, with a matching welcome and beautiful view over the harbour and estuary. Whilst the food was tasty and delivered quickly, the table (we requested an accessible table through the booking website for a wheelchair user) was too low to fit a wheelchair - good job we took a portable lap tray to eat from. There was a number of customers (myself included) who expressed disappointment over a CAMRA pub having no beers / ales on tap that evening, with only lager and cider available.

We went for Dinner the other day. The Shepherds Pie was amazing & all the Staff very friendly. Great buzzy atmosphere

Visited 3 times in a week Good food Friendly staff considering they were obviously run off their feet and needed more staff to help Overall very good ,don’t agree with some of the earlier reviews

The service was excellent by all the staff we had contact with. The table service was very good. The food arrived quickly and was hot and tasty. We would return again but on a less busy day (Bank holiday Monday... hectic). Thanks to all the staff at the Fleece.

Terrible experience. Table not cleared and had to clear it myself. Asked three times for service and for the dirty table to be cleaned which didn’t happen. No options for gluten free. Very busy with queues right next to where we were sitting. Left most of my meal. My family and I will never visit again.

The service was terrible, we waited 45 minutes for a drink then there was confusion over which wines they did or didn’t have in stock with three different members of staff saying different things. When our food arrived they got three out of five orders wrong. Clearly understaffed, lots of people Unhappy with the service which was a huge shame as the food was actually really good if you’re prepared to wait. We returned to give the fleece another chance after a previous bad experience but this being our second will not be visiting again.

Excellent meal, served by very friendly efficient staff, we sat near the bar and there was a queue for the bar near the table the whole time we were there, which was to be expected on a warm summers day, the food was really good, would definitely eat there again.

Took 30 minutes to complete drinks order - for 3 drinks. Came back twice as didn’t have ingredients for drinks. Had to reorder 3 times! Had nearly finished meal before drinks finally arrived. Food very average.

Despite receiving confirmation of my booking, when we arrived at the Golden Fleece we were advised that they had no record of our booking because their iPad had frozen. I advised them that was not my problem and asked to see the Manager. The Managers belligerent response really compounded the situation by stating that it’s not their fault that the iPad has frozen and they didn’t have a table for us. The restaurant was packed, so we were offered a table in the beer yard (it’s not a garden). It was windy, the tables were sticky, and it stank of fish and cigarette smoke. We decided to eat elsewhere. I will be making a formal complaint when I get back from my holiday. Terrible service.
