Soak up our friendly service and homely charm when nestled in the seaside town of Wells-next-the-Sea. Here at The Golden Fleece, we are the perfect dog friendly retreat to sit back, relax and indulge in our delicious food with the perfect drink in hand.

Our passion for food takes our menu to another level. Our traditional pub classics are expertly crafted whilst our world inspired dishes will have you coming back time and time again! Using the most seasonal ingredients and decadent flavours, there’s a dish for every desire.

Sit amongst the history in our Grade II listed building where you can enjoy a tipple where contemporary meets cosy and our head turning reclaimed staircase, taken from a 17th Century galleon shipwreck, it continues to amaze visitors and locals alike.

Unfortunately Sunday Roast was a disappointment. We booked solely because of the reviews and wouldn’t recommend. The one thick slice of beef was tough and o overcooked, the potatoes weren’t roasted, the runner beans were overcooked and stringy. To top it all no hot drinks were being served. Apparently they were too busy and didn’t have anyone to work the machine. Then was told by another member of staff the machine was broken. Overall very disappointed

I booked our table and was surprised that we had to order our drinks and food at the bar when there were waiting staff that didn’t seem to be busy at all . There was a queue at the bar and it took some time to order our food and drink . The food was good and staff were friendly

Good pub on the harbour, food good at a good price tables well spaced out, we were given a seat by the tv so we could watch the football. dog friendly Didn't like that is was a issue paying by cash, had to have the correct amount.

Have been going to this pub for years. It is now in der new management and is now poorly ran. I have mentioned this to the manager previously too - but took my two children there again on 22/06/24. You now have to order at the bar where only one bar man. Self service has just created long queues with everyone moaning about the same thing… ‘why have they changed it’. The old staff have all left now as all were unhappy at the raft of changes. The new young team are all untrained, unconfident and do not understand pubs. Food was awful immediately after the change of management - so bad my children wouldn’t eat it (and they eat anything). It has improved again Last Saturday I had people queuing around my table, frustrated at how long it takes to be served - leaning over my table trying to see what the issue was. Awful meal. I had to get my own cutlery as the young team do not have the notion to pre-serve some items or get them once the food has come (which was my issue) Overall I’ll keep going back out of nostalgia at how good this pub was/ could be. But don’t have high expectations anymore They seem to run out of wine/beer often too. The new manager is calamitous - albeit trying her best If it wasn’t for the location, I’d be going elsewhere - noting there are several fantastic pubs a short walk away

The food was nice. We had an issue with one of the meals not being recorded as being ordered so a long delay but it was sorted out by a lovely girl and all was ok in the end. Would visit again.

Overall ok, the service set up was strange though. When we got there we were shown to our table but nobody explained you had to order and pay at the bar. So we sat there for 10 mins waiting to be served before realising. Then there was only 1 person behind the bar with a queue of people ordering drinks but at the same time at least 2 to 3 members of waiting staff literally standing about doing nothing. Food was OK and pretty well priced but wouldn't bother going back, there's plenty of other places to choose from.

We specifically booked for lunch due to previous experience of excellent food and especially the fish and chips. Our meal was extremely disappointing. The fish was smaller than a mini fish in a local chip shop (all three plates) and curled dry! My mushy peas were actually cold too! Interestingly both outside and inside were not at all busy which I’ve never known before. I’ve ticked no In wouldn't recommend based on the poor quality of the food.

I wouldn't eat here again. Although the staff were lovely, the food was very disappointing. We ordered 3 chicken schnitzel, 1 steak and ale pie and a side order of garlic sourdough. The chicken was extremely dry and the coating so hard in places it couldn't be eaten. It came with a dressed salad. This consisted of no more than a tablespoon of limp lettuce with a very thin slice of tomato and a few bits of red onion and mayonnaise. The pie looked very anaemic but was at least edible. The sourdough was very thinly cut and very well toasted so that also became difficult to eat. There was no complaint about the chips.

Our first choices of meal were unavailable which was disappointing, but the food we had was good , we eat fairly regularly there as I work occasionally in the town Dog friendly so good for us but on this occasion some other customers dogs were very barky! Do we probably left earlier than planned.
