Our passion for food takes our menu to another level. Our traditional pub classics are expertly crafted whilst our world inspired dishes will have you coming back time and time again! Using the most seasonal ingredients and decadent flavours, there’s a dish for every desire.

Sit amongst the history in our Grade II listed building where you can enjoy a tipple where contemporary meets cosy and our head turning reclaimed staircase, taken from a 17th Century galleon shipwreck, it continues to amaze visitors and locals alike.

Seemed a shambles. Staff wandering around aimlessly. Took 25 minutes to order drinks, because we prompted them. Food very basic, nothing special and overpriced. I follow The Golden Fleece on Facebook and was hoping for a much better dining experience. Sadly not the case. The place needs a good shake up

Unfortunately we gave them another chance and were very disappointed. The service is incredibly slack, no waiting staff seemingly appointed to each table. Once seated at our very sticky table (it was wiped but rather half heartedly) we waited and waited for out order to be taken, it wasn't. I had to find a member of staff. Said member of staff fairly quickly came over to take our order. Our drinks then took another 10 minutes to arrive- it wasn't terribly busy. We placed our order and then 10 minutes later the same waiter returned to tell us that the Hallumi wrap wasn't available in the evening, only at lunchtime- why is it on the menu then? There is one menu with no time restrictions mentioned for these items. Anyway, we reordered. When the food arrived, the cutlery did not, I went and asked a member of staff for some. They brought it over and placed it fairly randomly on the table, with no consideration given to holding it correctly, holding them by their tip instead of their handles. When spending almost £15 for a veggie burger, it would be nice to have something more than a burnt burger bun served with chips less appetising than those I purchase from the supermarket- they were dry and disappointing, especially given the fabulous chips previously served here under the previous management, some salad on the side so the plate isn't half empty would be good- or perhaps a smaller plate would improve the presentation vastly. After a very disappointing birthday meal, we wont be returning, which is a shame. However, under the new management we have visited 4 times and found it to be getting progressively worse not better.

Birthday meal at this pub where we have often eaten in the past The menu was very simple with limited choice due to some things not being available. Boys wanted burgers but they couldn’t cook them cos cooking the bacon set off the fire alarm in the kitchen which seemed like a crazy reason. Other things off the menu as well. Menu was limited anyway. What we chose was very very basic simple food which we could easily of eaten at home to be honest. The pie was certainly out of a box and the fish and chips, and half chicken all seemed a little like packet meals. Service was fab and friendly however and she did her best with what she was having to serve. We were told we couldn’t have puddings as the kitchen had closed!!! There were seven of us what a waste of trade. Asked for ice cream with a birthday cake we had brought with us and for spoons. Couldn’t really believe it when we were told there were only six spoons available because the kitchen had or was washing up. We’ve had great meals here many times but this time was a little disappointing. We were a later booking and the pub was upbeat when we got there and lively but the loos were a bit grotty. Sorry Fleece. We love coming to Wells but won’t be booking here again for a while.

All was fine except I don’t think I sat at the table I reserved. We were put in the back room which seemed more of an overflow room with no view. Staff were very busy. Food was good. Would recommend but suggest to check reservation is as it should be as it would have been much nicer in the dining room..

We went for a roast on Sunday and the food was rather disappointing, long wait and had to be sent back as it came out luke warm. Roast chicken and beef were both tough & the side portion of cauliflower cheese was tiny, barely a spoonful which for £4.50 was not enough. We have been visiting the fleece for years and understand it is under new management so hopefully it will improve.

Visited twice during the week we stayed in Wells. Lovely pub with great views. Service was very good and food was delicious. Would definitely book a table on Fri/Sat night. Dog friendly.

Pre booked table and was sat in the back of the pub. Initial service ok. Drinks arrived promptly and food not too long after we ordered From then it was like we forgotten about Other customers in the back room waited ages as well to get served We waited and waited and in the end I went to the bar to get service, shame really as this place could be so much better with attention to detail.

We placed our order and over 30 mins later our food arrived. We had 2 roast beef -or rather 2 plates of leather! I have had shoes made of softer leather. The beef was well and truly cremated and the gravy was tasteless. It was clear that the food had sat on the plate under a heater for some time so I think it had been forgotten hence the massive delay in food being delivered to us. The reason I say this was the gravy was dried and congealed on the plate and beef! The potatoes and parsnips were fine but the rest of the veg was over cooked. Would I recommend this place - no I certainly wouldn't. Not good value for money and despite us complaining we didn't get any money back or compensation.

Bar staff chatted instead of serving. White wine not cold. Meat over cooked. Waited almost an hour for food. Very bad experience.
