The Godfather, a Balistreri restaurant, is an Italian monument in downtown San Diego providing authentic cuisine from the hills of Italy. Established in 1974, The Godfather is a sophisticated and classy establishment that centers around generational recipes from both Northern and Southern Italy. Over the years, the quality of food and standard of service has never declined and thus garnered The Godfather a national recognition as one of the top twenty-five Italian restaurants in the entire nation. Overall, a disappointing experience. The caprese salad was hands down the worst I’ve ever had! The tomatoes were not ripe and to make it worse had been refrigerated therefore rendering the dish flavor less. I expected much better from a storied Italian restaurant. An Italian restaurant that can’t get the tomatoes right doesn’t bode well. For a main I had the short rib ravioli which was tasty, but not exceptional. My colleague had the clams and linguine which they enjoyed. The prices are reasonable and the old school atmosphere is appealing. All things considered a decidedly average experience.

The Godfather was amazing. The food was so good. We will def be back. Service was phenomenal and front the zucchini chips to the cannoli we enjoyed all of it.

We have been there for dinner many times in the past, but not for about 18 months. We noticed a definite decline in the taste of our dinner selections, much to our disappointment. Service remains excellent.

My family has been coming here for many years. We love coming here and making memories. The food is outstanding! Last night our waiter, Sean, was fantastic! All the staff here are so friendly and attentive!

We have been going here for 20+ years and they recently went through changes in ownership and a big menu change. We have been a few times since this happened. Not sure it will stay on our list as a must do when relatives are in town or for special occasions. Im not saying its bad, Im just saying its different from what we fell in love with all those years ago. I got the sea bass which melts in your mouth. It came with a small plate of tasty pasta. They no longer include a salad or soup, those are now an additional $8 so I skipped it this time. 1/2 of the parking lot was coned off so we parked off to the side and then were told we had to valet or park in the back alley. Im not going to tip a valet to move my car 20 feet so we parked in the back and I wont be doing that again. It’s very dirty, dark and tight back there.

Our Anniversary Celebration dinner was exquisite! Lovely old school ambiance. Service was Devine and our meals were delightful and ver filling. Luckily we have left overs so why not continue the celebration into the weekend!!
