This was my fifth experience at The Globe in for lunch. This time I was with my Danish cousin. We had the Lunch du Marche, with my cousin taking the matching wines. She was blown away with the variety, the flavours, the beautiful presentation and the excellent but discreet service.

I’m 53 so I have had plenty of meals in my lifetime and I can easily say that this was the beautiful meal I have ever had- taste, aesthetics, presentation - everything. We had the set menu (5 courses). Omg! I nearly died! It was £45 for the most divine meal I have ever had. The presentation was more like art than food. It felt wanton to actually eat it when so much effort was put into creating the look of the food. The tastes were celestial! We are only here in Dumfries for the weekend but we are thinking about going again today for another lunch- it was that good. If this was in London, I think they might have charged around £300 per person. Absolutely outstanding!

Had heard a lot about The Globe Inn, it was our first time here; we were not disappointed. What wonderful cooking, clever and inventive full of flavour artfully arrayed, served by a team of engaging young attendants. Great use of space in this ancient building, we did not feel crowded even on a busy Saturday night. It’s a special place, convivial, unstuffy. We will return.

Amazing lunch. First try of the new season menu and it was just lovely. New cocktail menu was also fabulous. Will now have to go back to try all the stuff I couldnt manage!!!

Amazing ambience, with Tam and Johnnie Souter keeping us company though I’m certain they didn’t eat such delectable food as we did. A memorable evening.

I so wanted to love The Globe as I had heard such wonderful things about it. My daughter and I decided we would try lunch first. It is a fabulous and very interesting venue down an alley in central Dumfries. As soon as we were taken to our table we were offered tap water , still or sparkling , which arrived promptly. We chose the lunch menu and were excited to delve in. Starters were beautiful but the taste didn't match the presentation. Where things started to go really downhill were the mains . My daughter ordered a ravioli and it was just that. It was one large ravioli floating in a very small amount of bouillabaisse . She expressed her disappointment at the amount of the bouillabaisse and the fact the pasta was thick and the filling heavy . I am a huge fan of guinea fowl but mine tasted spongy and there was very little of it. Puddings were good but absolutely tiny. When I got home and looked at the bill I discovered we had been charged £4.50 for the sparkling tap water. Sorry The Globe but that is just not acceptable. If you plan to charge for tap water that should be made clear at the outset. Will I be back ? Maybe we just hit a bad day. I still really want to like it .

We did the tasting menu, impressive attention to detail, all the courses were fabulous as well as generous portion size would highly recommend, staff were fantastic as well.

We had a lovely time and enjoyed each course immensely. Service was wonderful; friendly and formal at the same time. It was a fine dining experience par excellence.

Fantastic food and lovely staff. One issue which was a shame was our dessert order wasn't put through. We waited 45 minutes for dessert and had to rush as we had pre ordered a taxi. I hope this was just a one off thing. It would not put me off returning as the food and everything else was excellent.
