Independent & proud. Since our 2016 restoration we've believed in creating good times. Being somewhere for everyone to feel at home.

From cosy pub dining, to eating alfresco on our covered, heated courtyard. A private party in our room 'upstairs' - even an overnight stay in one of seven ensuite rooms; The George makes the most comfortable of backdrops, whatever the occasion.

Find our pub & inn in the pretty village of Maulden, in the heart of the Bedfordshire countryside. Nestled on the famous Greensands Ridge Walk & a 30 minute walk to the market town of Ampthill.

Everything at The George is lovingly prepared onsite. Every dish fresh where possible & thoughtfully sourced.

Our " UPSTAIRS " private room is a perfect place to spend with family and friends catching up. You have the room to yourselves whilst we look after you " Home from Home " Seats up to 18 comfortably, is fitted with air conditioning and has its own private wc. The room has a balcony which overlooks views of our grass area, bedrooms and the picturesque St Marys Church. To book this room please contact us to check availability. It is not suitable for wheelchair access.

We are regular customers of The George, visiting at least 2-3 times a month for drinks and quite often food. The food is usually fantastic, but this time I had the vegan pie and the veg that arrived with it was awful. I couldn’t even work out what it was at first and has to ask the waitress…apparently it was roasted root vegetables, but half of it was burnt and half of it was still raw inside. I flagged it with the waitress, and she brought me some peas and cabbage. We were with friends so I didn’t want to make too much of a fuss, but it should not have been served.

We had a lovely meal, service was good, polite and friendly staff. There was a band playing… Out of the hat, they were excellent, really enjoyed listening and joining in singing their songs. We will definitely book again when they are playing.

Our server was very attentive. She understood that it was a birthday lunch and gave us space to chat. We had everything we needed without being overbearing. A free glass of wine was a lovely touch .

We were very well looked after from the moment we walked through the door to the very end of our meal. The service was friendly and attentive but not too intrusive. Food was fantastic and plenty of it. A brilliant and relaxed evening. Thank you

Despite poor service this is definitely a restaurant to experience. The food was excellent, however we found the service let the over all experience down. The staff appeared more interested in cleaning tables than serving customers. For example, I had to get up and find someone to get cutlery after waiting 5-10 minutes after receiving our sweet. The espresso was cold as it had clearly been left a while before being brought to the table. We had to repeatedly attract staff attention to get drinks and food orders placed.

My visit too the George today was lovely.i went too celebrate my 50th birthday with family .the food and service outstanding.well worth the money for the amount of food you get .

Probably the best Sunday roast we’ve had in a long time!! Perfectly cooked meat, roast potatoes and fresh vegetables. Yummy gravy. One of us had the pie and mash which was also delicious. Staff were very helpful and friendly. The place was buzzing and we can see why! Well done, we will be back!
