The George Hotel is a 17th Century townhouse enjoying a wonderful location nestling on the water’s edge between the castle and pier in the bustling harbor town of Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight.

This magnificent building is steeped in history and was once home to the most noteworthy of the Island’s Governors, Sir Robert Holmes who often entertained King Charles II.

We do not have our own parking however there is a privately owned pay and display short stay car park with 2 disabled bays to the side of the hotel which is called Pier Square.The nearest long stay is River Road, approx. 4 minute walk from the hotel. Fantastic place to dine. Service was quick and food was amazing. We asked to sit in the sun and we were provided with a brilliant view and a table in the sun.

Food was excellent Harry our waiter gave some great recommendations Would definitely recommend the baked Alaska and was enough for 2 to share

Disappointed, it took an hour to get the main course, we did have a starter, it was only Pizza. The excuse that everyone’ wanted pizza’s didn’t really cut it as we sat down at early at 6.

What can I say, everything I found wrong with this place was already highlighted on Trip Advisor. If I learned anything from our recent visit to The George Hotel Yarmouth Isle of Wight it is that I should have read the reviews on Trip Advisor prior to booking a table. Staff attitude was appalling across the board from management to waiting staff. Due to the fact that the restaurant was completely empty I was cautious re what I ordered. I looked out from the restaurant onto the patio seating and in my opinion the scene I was faced with resembled no more than a rowdy Wetherspoons with a nice view. I decided to order a Pizza with fries, the others in my party ordered the burger, a restaurant that is not busy at 7:30pm is never a good sign so I did not wish to risk ordering a more expensive offering. The fact that we had however ordered 3 meals all coming in at just under £25.00 it seemed increased the attitude thrown our way from the waiter, especially when we were able to compare the service we were receiving to that of another table ordering copious amounts of food. My pizza (a four cheese creation) basically tasted like one very mild cheddar all over with a soggy crust. The burgers had so much mayonnaise on the bun you could actually ring it out like a dishcloth, the fries & onion rings were all cooked from frozen, truly awful!! My partner and his mother couldn’t finish it, I myself did finish the Pizza but to be honest I was so hungry I could have eaten road kill. The most disappointing aspect of the whole evening was the fact that my partner & I had taken his mother to this restaurant purely for the fact that she had seen it on a documentary about the Island and she had told us she would love to go as a special treat on the last evening of our holiday, the experience left us all really quite upset. Will not return!!

We had olives and almonds with drinks. Quite a lot, one would have been enough. Tuna starter was very good, sea bream ceviche also very good but comparatively small. Husband had the sirloin which he scored 3/5. My cod with a caper butter sauce and crushed new potatoes was excellent. Nicest fish dish I’ve had out for a very long time.
