Cooking Class with Chef Jonathan Gushue Jonathan has personally curated a class to share his recipes & secrets with only 12 guests. Wednesday October 9th 2024 & Wednesday October 30th 2024 5:30pm - 8:30pm at The Gate. The evening will inspire, delight and provide an inside look at The Gate kitchen. Jonathan will personally welcome you with bubbly and light bites. You will spend some intimate time understanding what carried his fascinating career: his philosophy and how he approaches cooking. Then, Jonathan himself, will demonstrate a few dishes that will make you swoon now and impress your guests later. Memorable Menu: Learn several dishes from our upcoming autumn harvest menu. Recipes and method will be printed to take home!

Second time at The Gate- food was outstanding! Some changes to the menu were a pleasant surprise. Deliciously prepared duck, tender chuck steak and lions mane mushrooms with hazelnut crunch.

Cute restaurant, which is bigger than it looks (big room in the back), with country-vibe decor. Options for "counter" seats where you have a front row seat to the open kitchen. The servers know their stuff and are very friendly, however the service between courses was a bit slow. The food, oh the food... it was AMAZING! While they say everything is to be shared, anything on the menu could be done a la carte. We split a few starters (sourdough bread, heirloom tomatoes, albacore tuna, duck and pistachio sausages) but did our own mains (salted cod(a Newfie classic by the Newfie chef himself!), Digby scallops, and lamb shoulder). Two of us had the seasonal cocktail (can't remember exactly what it was, but it had amaretto, one of my favs, and it was delicious!), and the other a glass of rose wine. We topped it off with the vanilla pot creme for dessert, which was so good, but very rich, so the 3 of us ended up splitting it. Highly recommend a visit to experience this incredible restaurant. A great "treat" night or date night out!

The Gate has yet to disappoint! We have been a few times over a few months and wether for lunch, or for dinner, The Gate delivers a great experience every time! Jennifer is always so welcoming and Jonathan and his kitchen brigade bring you mouth watering dish after mouth watering dish! It is a great addition to the ever expanding Grey County culinary scene and is definitely worth the wee drive out to Flesherton! You will be grateful that you did!

The conversation at the next table was very intrusive. The staff was happy to move us where there was the general hub-bub of a busy evening but nothing offending. The food is always creative and unique. Everything was delicious with four of our seven dishes being outstanding. We treated ourselves to a broad range of dishes but the menu is designed so you can build your visit to be within your fine dining budget and appetite.

Return 2nd time. Same excellent food, love speciality mushroom, duck sausage, pasta/sauce. Superb gourmet quality.

We loved everything about The Gate. The food was absolutely delicious; the service was impeccable; decor is charming. Great value! We look forward to our next visit.

A lovely evening celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. Staff had a nice note on our table acknowledging our special day. Food was exceptional and equally so was the service.

This was our second time coming to the Gate and we loved it even more. The food is creative in a way we don't often find even in restaurants in Toronto. Each dish is crafted as if a piece of art, carefully balanced with delicious flavours. The ingredients are only of the highest quality. The service was stellar. The wine list is small but totally affordable (And delicious). We don't mind paying for great food. Our family is filled with people who are great cooks so we also don't often bother going out. The Gate is absolutely worth the trip to Flesherton. We can't wait until they open their new location in Kimberly. Bravo! ps. A final note on value/price - I think some people get caught up in the individual prices of the individual items. The lamb shank as an example was quite expensive given the proportion. HOWEVER - if you just think about the overall cost including booze per person, it's about $125 per person (all in) which is a great value for the quality of the food. It's definitely a high end choice, but it's one you remember and are glad you made the trip for vs. feeling annoyed that you got overpriced average food.
