Every dish was outstanding, and the titular ingredient featured as the central content and flavour (which I’ve found not always the case in other “comparable” settings). Unexpected flavours, fascinating texture profiles… made every dish revelatory and interesting. Exactly the right amount of attention… could do with another set of hands on drink duty. 3 hour drive for the round trip… absolutely worth it. Can’t wait to go back.

Loved the small plates especially the shaved snap peas dish. Could eat that every day. Also can't wait to go back for the Digby scallops with the best spinach ever.

Cozy and warm atmosphere. Delicious sharing dishes with simple and healthy ingredients prepared with an explosion of flavour. Each dish was completely unique, but still somehow complemented each other. We ordered 7 dishes btwn two people. Maybe one too many, but I wouldn't change a thing. The cod was flaky, melt in your mouth perfect; the chickpea polenta warm and comforting; tuna tartar with some kind of heavenly prepared sweet peppers; and the pot de creme dessert...mind blown. The service was perfect. What a gem. We're so glad we found this spot and will be back as soon as we can.

Terrific experience with The Gate. Awesome menu of share plates each with its own flavours and textures. The menu has been carefully assembled with something for everyone. Food is prepared and presented with care by a very talented team. Not inexpensive but worth the trip to lovely Flesherton.

this is the best thing to happen in Grey County. It is the complete experience, amazing food, service, ambience, and charm. You will not be disappointed.

Made a reservation for a birthday lunch with my partner and 8 year old. The restaurant is lovely and completely unpretentious - in a quintessential small town Ontario main street building. Incredible service, and the recommendations were on point. Chef Gushue was in house and came over to wish me a happy birthday. Ordered 6 dishes, mocktails and desserts. First, everything is BEAUTIFUL. Ingredients are seasonal and local. Everything was so so delicious. Portions for sharing were a good size. We had duck sausage, the seared tuna, oyster mushrooms, asparagus, fettuccine, salt cod. For me, the tuna and the mushrooms were standouts. We had the starberries/ vanilla custard and the grapefruit sorbet with goat milk ice cream for dessert. Both were good, but we loved their handmade truffles which they served at the end of our meal even more. This is a meal worth traveling for and I can’t wait to go back.

More than just going out for dinner, it is a true culinary experience with an ever changing menu. The time and effort that goes into everything from the sourcing of the ingredients to the menu design and presentation is truly top notch and creates a one of a kind dining experience. So pleased that you chose our small town to showcase your talents.
