The Friendly Society is Elora's best-loved neighborhood restaurant. The decor is romantic yet rustic, the vibe is hip and comfortable, and the atmosphere is always welcoming. It is located on the river, steps from the Elora Mill, with a licensed patio and live music in the summer.

Chef Marc Gebran offers classic elevated comfort food with a focus on local and seasonal ingredients. Our well-stocked bar offers a wide range of beers, a lovingly-curated wine list, and a full cocktail menu.

Highlights include Sunday brunch, summer cocktails on the patio, a romantic date night, and dinner with friends.

    Pleasantly surprised by our evening meal before a play. We expected it would be good but in fact it was excellent. Great reception at the door, we had reserved two seats at the Chef's table, Scott our waiter was very attentive with drinks, wine and food advice. The chef and his assistants were also very friendly in describing what particular dish they were preparing. Menu is just the right size, big enough to offer some great choices and not crazy like the 5 page menus you see at other places. We shared the charcuterie board with biltong and the Handeck cheese was so good we bought some the next morning at a local store. We had cider and rose with dinner and both of us had the very tender, wood grilled and well flavoured lamb that was as good or better than we've had anywhere before. Finished it up with a molva pudding and ice cream and very good espresso. Great casual ambience, outstanding staff, excellent food and all at a fair price. I don't rate many things 5 star but Braai definitely is. We're going back for sure and you should give it a try.

    Had their AYCE brunch on Sunday. Loved the options available, though some dishes came that are not hot. But most of the food options are good. Good value!

    Personally, I believe they have the best food and service in Elora. Drinks are a little $$$ but made to perfection.

    Food was just ok. Our son enjoyed his burger. My husband had the Cobb chicken salad which was very basic. I heard good things about the crispy chicken sandwich but it wasn’t for me. It was way over sauced dripping with sauce and very messy to try and eat and very soggy with the bun. The side garden salad didn’t come mixed with the dressing. It was poured on top but not nicely mixed and same with the Cobb salad. Decor was lovely and that’s what attracted us to the restaurant. We were seated in the basement and I do think more attention to cleanliness is needed. Our booth bench was sticky and there were some areas with grease and food spills. I didn’t want to put my handbag down beside me. The floor looked quite dirty and while admiring the decor and really nice antique touches I almost wanted to get up and start cleaning. I think it has potential and I have heard good things but it’s not for us.

    Incredibly fast and great service. We needed a quick bite to eat and got our food in less than 20 minutes of being there. Restaurant had a great ambience and was very well designed. Food was delicious and reasonably priced for what it is. Will come back. Bronwyn was an attentive and knowledgeable server.
