AA 2 Rosette restaurant. The Forge Restaurant in Chester is one of Chester’s best restaurants with delicious food and unrivalled service. With a passion for wild, sustainable British ingredients, and a love of simple cooking over fire and charcoal. The Forge has its kitchen front and centre in the middle of this lovely, and elegant space. Incredible dry-aged beef and wild venison will be found in the maturation cabinets, awaiting their turn on the amazing forge grill, to be lovingly grilled and roasted over beech logs. Head chef Dan Regan, a passionate chef, heads up the young, vibrant team in the kitchen. Combining amazing, wild, sustainable ingredients from land and sea into sumptuous creations that form really memorable eating experiences. We focus on British ingredients, as local to Chester. Our venison, always a hugely popular part of our menus, is harvested from herds on estates that focus on improving biodiversity and deer health – a process we call Farming the Wild.

Michelin star recommended.. I can understand why.. The food was hot and delicious and beautifully presented.. all starters were amazing… the artichoke and mushroom tart.. was top glass.. The roast was plentiful and veg was very tasty.. the best Yorkshire puds we have ever eaten out… and we eat out a lot.. for a Sunday roast.. Desserts were all too glass… cudnt say which was was the best as they were all incredible.. Booking to go for birthday celebrations !! Go you will not be disappointed…

There were 4 of us celebrating our daughter’s university degree results we ordered 2 sharing steaks medium rare. One of them was served as requested. The second was completely over done to such an extent it was crispy on the ends. As this was a special occasion at first I did not want to return the steak as I did not want to upset my daughter’s special celebration. However as it was clearly inedible we had no other choice but to complain. Our waiter completely agreed the steak was overdone and took it away. We were advised by the manager we would only be charged half price for the steak! I sat there and realised that the steak had been taken away we were not going to be offered a replacement and were still being expected to pay 50% for a Meal we did not have. I asked for the full price of the steak to be removed and paid the bill which included a full service charge and then left. The more I think about the poor meal and customer service we received the more disappointed I am. The forge has such a great reputation and we have not had a problem in the past. However based on the meal we were presented with that should never have come out of the kitchen in the first place & we were then expected to pay 50% for even when it had been removed, with no replacement offered I really feel that we should not have been expected to pay anything at all! Thanks for ruining the graduation evening that occurs once in a lifetime! Won’t be coming back again.

A beautiful Sunday lunch. The roast beef was done to perfection. We went as a birthday treat and it didn't disappoint. The whole experience felt a little special

food was exquisite as always!! This time we purchased a dining experience from groupon for 3 couse sunday lunch which was fantastic value would definately recommend

It took 35 mins before we got a drink. The drinks were quite nice when they did get there though. My starter (goats cheese) was lovely but my partner’s (chicken parfait) was quite runny and unpleasant. Our main cane out much rarer than recommended/asked for. Fortunately neither of us mind but if you were a bit pickier it would have been sent back. It was still very tasty though. Overall an average experience, which is a shame because we had a great evening the last time that we visited.

Service let the restaurant down. The venue is nice and has so much potential to be great, however the experience was poor. I won’t be back.

An honest review with constructive feedback. We’d heard mixed reviews leading up to our visit, but went with an open mind. Food: lovely starters, but have had better scallops in Chester. Sharing Steak, pricey but fair value for meat, well seasoned but presentation was severely lacking. Cut into 1inch slabs rather smaller slices. For the price of steak I would have expected a small salad included. Happy to pay for extra sides, which were nice. Dessert was nice. Service: front of house was good, greeted warmly and seated quickly. Moved to a more preferable table on request. Very slow drinks service. Served flat champagne (was changed). Empty glasses left on table for 30 mins without being offered more drinks. At no point were we asked if we enjoyed the meal. Waiting staff not attentive or client focused, but perfectly pleasant. Ambiance: open kitchen was nice, but have never seen chefs standing around before! As we are eating desserts at 9:30 open kitchen had the lights turned off and was being cleaned, and candles on empty tables were blown out. Overall: disappointing night. Hope lessons can be learnt.

We had booked online for the three courses with bubbles but were told this was not available. We had the standard lunch deal and the food was delicious. We both had ham hock croquettes; these were amazing and so filling. Next we had cod and chicken with a side of chips; both tasty. We had lemon meringue and chocolate delice which were wonderful. Bought a bottle of house white as bubbles not provided. Service was lovely. Restaurant was quiet. When paying the bill we were offered the bubbles but we had drunk the wine by then. Lovely meal but spent more than expected due to the bubbles issue. Would go again as food the best.
