AA 2 Rosette restaurant. The Forge Restaurant in Chester is one of Chester’s best restaurants with delicious food and unrivalled service. With a passion for wild, sustainable British ingredients, and a love of simple cooking over fire and charcoal. The Forge has its kitchen front and centre in the middle of this lovely, and elegant space. Incredible dry-aged beef and wild venison will be found in the maturation cabinets, awaiting their turn on the amazing forge grill, to be lovingly grilled and roasted over beech logs. Head chef Dan Regan, a passionate chef, heads up the young, vibrant team in the kitchen. Combining amazing, wild, sustainable ingredients from land and sea into sumptuous creations that form really memorable eating experiences. We focus on British ingredients, as local to Chester. Our venison, always a hugely popular part of our menus, is harvested from herds on estates that focus on improving biodiversity and deer health – a process we call Farming the Wild.

The Forge is working with Chester Roman Tours and will be hosting weekly Roman Tours of Chester and Lunch at the Forge. How would you like to be transported back nearly 2000 years, to visit the city of Chester when it was the largest Roman fortress in Britain; so large and well-appointed to have the unique feature of Britain's biggest amphitheatre too? For people who like something fresh, interesting, factual and fun - a perspective on history that perhaps you haven't considered before, touring Chester with an authentic Roman Soldier guiding you on a light-hearted journey through Chester's Roman Heritage. After the tour its back to The Forge where you will be able to enjoy a fabulous two or three course lunch.

My Son and I have visited the Forge on several occasions and we were considering Christmas Lunch at The Forge this year. We visited yesterday 29 September at 6pm for Sunday Lunch. The food was of a good quality and very tasty. However, on this occasion we were very disappointed with the portion size of our starter and desert. Although we see that the elegant presentation of a dish is very important. We chose the lamb starter and the white chocolate mouse for desert The lamb was presented as the size of the end of my teaspoon being, one very small piece. So small, in-fact that you could hardly taste it! The white chocolate mouse again being just the size of a teaspoon. In the past we have looked forward to dinning at The Forge, however, we may have to look else where in the future.

Food quality was excellent and the servers were very attentive. The live music was a lovely touch.

The food was okay but there was a delay after the mains were served while we waited for potatoes. The service was hit and miss and it is a pricey menu. I wouldn't hurry back

Lovely food and ambience but misses a few extra touches for the price. High service charge and not really worth it, could do with complimentary chocolates or more weaponised service.

Good quality but small portions. Asked for a medium cooked steak, it was a bit more towards rare than medium. Dessert was nice but again small. About two mouth fulls!

Massive blonde hair in the food, food was remade but nothing giving to us for the inconvenience as we didnt eat togther

We have been once before and were back this time for a special occasion. Super service and the most incredible food. It is expensive but for a special occasion is well worth the expense if you want a gastronomic experience
