Located 20yds from the beach in the beautiful seaside village of Sandsend, we’re just a short drive from the popular fishing town of Whitby, North Yorkshire.

We have a real love for the sea and pride ourselves in serving the finest, locally caught sustainable fish and seafood in a casual dining environment.

At Fish Cottage, we welcome the whole family to our seafood restaurant and that includes the four legged members too. So you can head off on a coastal adventure knowing that afterwards you can enjoy a delicious seafood supper all together at our dog friendly restaurant in Sandsend, Whitby.

Restaurant opening times: 11:30 am open, last seating 8 pm; Last orders takeaway Mon-Sun 8.00 pm

We don't take bookings for our outside areas, its on a first come basis.

    We ate at Fish Cottage as a family of 4 (plus dog!) having had chips earlier in the day at their sister take-away in Robin Hood’s Bay, and loved it! Beautiful holiday vibes in their outdoor space, it was a bit chilly so we ate inside which was cosy. Food was all delicious (fish tacos, scampi, fish kiev & mussels) and service was super friendly.

    Superb, great welcome, lovely ambience, cold well kept beer, the branding is fabulous across the napkins labels on the wine bottles just really well thought out. The seats are very comfortable . It's so busy but you feel your visit is appreciated. The foods delicious , fresh oysters , amazing seafood just visit and see what everyone else is coming for it's just fabulous !

    During our week staying in Sandsend to July 5 we ate at Fish Cottage twice - outside lunch and inside dinner . Both occasions excellent - ages ranged from 6 months to 70 years - all enjoyed local fresh fish superbly prepared - favs Crab Fries and fishghetti. We will return !

    After main course (slow to take order & slow to serve food) rudely pressurised to make rapid choice of dessert so that other customers could have our table. Fish & chips okay. Lobster very good. Evening (birthday celebration) totally spoiled by this officious incident. Resulted in no dessert order, no coffee order, no liquers order, just a swift exit. Due to this upsetting & unpleasant experience, unlikely to return.

    We had a lovely meal yesterday. Everything was cooked well. There was a bit of a delay serving the main courses. I would have liked an option of a proper sauce with my Monkfish. I can knock a lemon and dill sauce up in 5 minutes. I also think £14 is too expensive for a large Sauvignon Blanc but it was my birthday! Overall, I considered it to be overpriced for what we received.

    Was great to find a restaurant that offered such a wide variety of fish in addition to the usual fish and chips. Lovely decor inside with a relaxed vibe, friendly staff and good service. It was a little quiet as it was a Sunday night but overall a lovely experience.

    Lovely Sunday late lunch. Very welcoming with good choice of fish dishes. Large Yorkshire portions so 3 courses may be too much for most. Decent selection of good quality wines.
