What started as a food truck concept in 2019 then became a beachside bistro in 2021. The Federal, located just a short block from the famed Rehoboth Beach boardwalk has become a full-service, beach casual, fine-dining bistro. The demure restaurant now hosts the two concepts in one space - you can enjoy fritters before dinner, for a happy hour snack, or go for a boardwalk stroll. Federal Fritter menu features a variety of crisp, poppable & snackable fritters, while The Federal menu expands on a way of eating that best defines Todd & Ellen's culinary style, the menu reads like a postcard from the Mid-Atlantic. Chef Gray pays careful attention to the seasons, honoring what the Delmarva region harvests.

The food was good but not fantastic. It was WAY overpriced, though. $43 for a pasta dish and $18 for a medium arugula salad is too much, even for the beach. We won’t be going back.

Fine dining prices , food, and vegetarian options but a bummer to be seated next to the kitchen. Dining as a single is often less than happy. The main area of the restaurant had a nice vibe and music, but I had kitchen smells and view of the bar. I recommend for the food but ask for a good seat when you reserve.

Wonderfully delicious and unique food by DC-based chef Todd Grey - he was there with his wife Ellen to greet us and make sure we always have a wonderful dining experience. Server Nikki was outstanding! Fantastic service!

Excellent food and service! Have dined there many times - consistently superb! Chef Todd and Ellen are so welcoming and the evolving menu always has a few new surprises - the seafood gnocchi is a favorite - please keep that one and the scallops too. The oyster fritters are a great starter and we tried the Apple Fritter dessert for the first time - so delicious! 5 stars!

Wonderful restaurant, love the food and service. Fritters were delicious. Ellen, the owner, made us feel so welcomed. Ellen and Todd have a passion for fine cuisine and we were the grateful beneficiaries. One of Rehoboth's best restaurants. Can't wait to return.

Our first experience due to a very positive set of blurbs on NextDoor and many excellent reviews!! Saturday night table for to 6 o’clock as reservations are must..The tables are very close together, and sometimes the server has tostand in between them with their butt in your face but not a huge miss considering the size… There are a couple of high tops beside the sidewalk outside..We did not personally experience the bar area, but it seemed small and located at the very end of the restaurant The food is very good for the money and the presentation is probably around 3.5 stars .. Our server was both enthusiastic and attentive, and had been with the restaurant for four years… A terrific advocate for their food ! My wife’s 40.00 Gnocchi in a single bowl was flavorful and quite large!! My 39.00 Halibut was terrific!! Served on a single plate with french fries and asparagus overlapping a nice crab accoutrement… we had sodas and ice tea.and the 7.00 cornbread was fine… not special but fine is fine..we did not personally experience the bar area, but it seemed small and located at the very end of the restaurant! all in all..Not Compelling enough to make this a go to for us… Additionally… Though not the restaurants fault… It is the first beach block on Rehoboth Avenue and therefore very difficult to get to on a weekend… Forewarned is forearmed Of course… we will try them again… just not on a weekend during our busy season As so many terrific choices exist in our area with easier accessibility. our server was both enthusiastic and attentive, and had been with the restaurant for four years… A terrific advocate for their food
