Inspired by the rich culinary traditions of Northern Italy, The Fat Ox brings a taste of the Italian Alps to our guests. Our name, "Fat Ox," pays homage to the robust flavors and hearty dishes found in Northern Italian cuisine.
Symbolizing strength, endurance, and the bounty of the land, it reflects our commitment to serving exceptional meals crafted from the finest ingredients, sourced locally whenever possible and prepared with care & expertise. Our view for our guests is: We just want to have fun!

Lunch 11am-2pm
Apertivo 2pm-4pm (only food menu served during this time period)
Dinner 4pm- 10pm

My husband and I went for Valentine’s Day and everything about this place was outstanding. The food is delicious, the service is impeccable. They even offered to take a Polaroid of us as a treat for Valentine’s Day which was such a sweet touch! We’d definitely come back again.

We dined here the food was amazing. Our server brandon went above and beyond with recommendations and info on the dishes! He was also very knowledgeable with the wine and prosecco! We will definitely go back again for the food and brandon!

HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND! We booked for our anniversary because we heard such amazing things about the restaurant and it did not disappoint AT ALL. First the food- we ordered the Focaccia (of course you just need to get this if you are dining Italian) , elk meatballs and the mussels. They did not AMAZING, the flavours and the balance of the dishes were on point! If i had to pick one i would say get the elk meatballs! For mains we got the gnocchi and the black linguine wow the sauce- based on other reviews saying it is a "small portion" I genuinely have to say it is your normal serving for Italian restaurants and the price is 100% justified for its components. Now for service- The level of care and service is beyond amazing, our server Kevin and i believe the manager were superb !! Kevin made our night a breeze for sure! We will be back for the brunch and to try other dishes dinner from the dinner menu.

Our dinner at the fat ox was incredible. Our server Kevin was amazing. He paced our meal perfectly and was so friendly and attentive, my water was filled as soon as it was empty. Our food was amazing. The burrata was fantastic and I’m pretty sure I heard angels singing with every bite of my pork and scallops. The dessert was a chocolate and cherry torte which was equally memorable. We will come back to Banff just to eat here again!

It was good. Our server was AWESOME and we enjoyed the experience. Feel like the short rib was overpriced. Ours had lots of fat on it and it was $48. I would stay away from that on the menu, but the meatballs were fantastic!

The restaurant is inviting and our server was friendly and attentive to just the right level. All four members of our party ordered pasta dishes, and all were well-portioned and perfectly prepared and seasoned. There were a few larger tables around us, so I found it a bit loud at times, but we were still able to have a comfortable chat amongst ourselves. I will go back.

We waited 50 minutes to receive our cocktails and over 2 hours to receive our food. An other party with a 45 minute later reservation was served well before we were and left 45 minutes ahead of us. The restaurant is very open and noisy, to the point we couldn’t carry on conversations. The food was good. The ribeye was slightly overcooked however. When we asked to speak to the manager all he said was I’m sorry. At the end of a day we understand mistakes happen but they had an opportunity to make it right and did not. Instead they were ambivalent figuring they would never see us again.

I understand that experience wasn't as good you would have hoped, but please understand that there is no reason for the conduct demonstrated towards the server.
