Servers & hostess very very helpful & cordial. Only complaint was the swordfish dish was not interesting-a nice piece of fish but nothing served with it. Would have liked either a starch or vegetable. Would not order that again especially with price of it. All other dishes were excellent & creative including drinks. Will return but will ask more questions before ordering. Also would be nice to have been offered bread.

Decided to try the Essex in light of strong ratings and it was across the street from the Kate for a show last night. They started us off with an amuse bouche soup that was delicious. I had the foie starter and then the fluke rack. Both were outstanding, esp the fluke rack with a very cool and unique "rack" presentation. My wife had the raw fluke app followed by the small version of the pappardelle. Both of those were outstanding as well. This restaurant is a serious foodie restaurant with excellent food and service. Bravo Essex!!

Another wonderful meal at The Essex! The other couple had never been before but told us, “This has the reputation of the best fine dining on the Shoreline.” We had truly jumbo shrimp and scrumptious scallops yakatori for first course. We agreed the freshly baked rolls are some of the best we have ever tasted. For the second course we enjoyed the Fluke, swordfish, and halibut. All prepared and presented delightfully. We couldn’t resist adding their tasty pommes purée for the table.. We had room for dessert, and I highly recommend doing so. All four had something deliciously unique in flavor and they rounded out the meal perfectly.

Excellent food and drinks, very good service (though we sat at the bar), great small restaurant ambiance. However, pricing was way over the top ($250 for 2 people with 2drinks each with no dessert). We’ll only go back for special occasions.

We did the 5 and 7 course tasting. The amuse was our favorite course. For the price, we’ve had much better. But for this area, we really enjoyed it. We plan to come back and try individual dishes, as the tasting didn’t do it for us. We really think it has great potential though!
