The Eskdale is located in the heart of the majestic North York Moors National Park on the banks of the river Esk, a great northern trout and salmon river. Established in 1865 as The Station Hotel it has been in continues use as a public house since then.

A wonderful experience! Gorgeous food and atmosphere. A big thank you for making the stew on the main course into a starter. Will definitely be planning a return visit.

Service was good. The ambiance was bad. Like a cafe not a cosy pub. Very stark. Cafe table and chairs not comfortable. Food very average to poor. Dry burger overcooked reheated chips. Set meal stew dry and small portion of stew large portion mash so overall won’t return

Hi Helen, Thank you for taking the time to write your review. I’m sorry that you weren’t happy with your experience. It’s very sad to hear that you think our tables and chairs are ‘cafe’ fodder - the pew your party was sat on was actually hand crafted by the owners father. We had both log burners on so should’ve been quite cosy? I’m surprised you found our Xmas decorations ‘stark’ - because quite frankly, there’s an awful lot! (It took hours!) I am sorry you weren’t happy with your food - I’ll look into the dry burger, but we never reheat chips, they are steamed, and then double fried. Never reheated. If we were made aware of the issues with your chosen meals then we could have rectified it there and then as we don’t like our guests to leave unsatisfied. I’m sad to hear you won’t return.

Perfect for Sunday dinner - came with our 4 month old, booked in advance and had a table made available with space for a pram in a quiet area, absolutely perfect. Warm and welcoming service, great range of drinks, perfect roast with great veg. Loved the beef cheek starter and ganache desert. Only thing that would improve it is a better range of 0% drinks, especially beers.

Brilliant place! The staff were great, welcoming , helpful and knowledgable which just added to the lovely feel of the place. The meal was excellent, rump steak that was cooked perfectly and a great onion tart that was very tasty. The selection of deserts was no less impressive and the pickled walnuts , Brie and tea loaf was cracking. Great selection of wines and all at good prices. A great effort from all involved and made for a lovely night! The Eskdale punches well above its weight and we will be back!

Great menu and friendly staff. The crab ravioli and pigs cheek starters were very tasty and were followed by a good stew/dumplings and Goan fish curry. A great stop off in the moors

The food was delicious, we had a Sunday roast and opted for the beef, which was cooked perfectly. The veg was all delicious and the Yorkshire pudding was huge. The service was amazing, the staff were so friendly and we were made to feel very welcome. We will definitely be returning soon.

The service was excellent, friendly and efficient. I love the fact that it is so relaxed. We have been for Sunday lunch twice and an evening birthday meal. All were special! All the dishes I have had have been delicious. We particularly love the Sunday lunches. We will keep coming back! Thank you to all the staff who make it a perfect place to eat!
