Set in the picturesque village of Abbots Ripton with access to beautiful walks on the local estate, The Elm has everything you want from your perfect countryside pub; A glorious garden, a roaring fire, comfortable rooms, delicious food and a wide selection of drinks.

The Grade II-listed building was built, as an open hall, in the late 15th Century to offer hospitality to the drovers bringing cattle down from Scotland (along the Bullock Road) to the market at St.Ives. It was later altered with the insertion of a brick chimney in the early 17th century. The Fellowes family, that own and run the pub, came to the area around the same time the pub got its chimney...

Overall a lovely dining experience. Food wise, we thought that the roast potatoes were a “little hard” but the rest of the meal was very good.

food quality was good, but I personally do not think price was reasonable. Staff seemed low. I booked it as my wife's birthday treat and mentioned this on OpenTable and when I went to pay , I asked why they wanted to know if it was a special treat. The response is that we give a something special to customers. We did not receive anything special for my wife's birthday. When we left the place, I noticed there was a service charge, with no warning anywhere on menu or advertised. My wife said she did not care about not having a birthday treat, but she said that she did not feel particularly welcome, she thinks it might be because we came early. Would not go back to eat, but lovely area, so might go back for drinks to seat outside.

Chips were not nice and the steak disappointed. My friend had a chicken cesar salad and there was hardly any chicken

Booked a table in advance but when we got there we were told to just pick a free one, I was expecting a table to be reserved otherwise what’s the point in booking in advance? The food was very disappointing, fish and chips very soggy and salty, salad also overly salty, was given a knife to stir the jug of pimms. Shame as it’s a nice setting, won’t be returning again for food.

Tremendous meal to celebrate our anniversary. We both went for the filet steak which was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. Especially recommended

We went to the Elm to celebrate our wedding anniversary and had a great time. The food was delicious especially the scallops and the fillet steak. All the servers were very friendly and made us feel welcome. We have already booked to return with some of our friends in a couple of weeks. My husband and I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Setting was lovely as were the staff, unfortunately the food was not very good, i had a chicken burger the chicken was dry the bread wasn’t toasted and my cheese wasn’t melted. My 2 friends had the same they also wasn’t impressed. My partner had the steak and the steak was rubbery and didnt have much taste. It was a shame as se had heard such good things about the elm was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately we wont be going again.

Very busy Friday night which slowed service a bit. starters was quick and delicious, bit of a wait on main , but all good excellent staff and lovely setting outside under the sail and they always have a great real ale on tap. Just love this pub.

Food was very good, I’m not keen on paying a 10% service charge though . I tip at the end of the meal what I think the service was worth.

We had been meaning to visit the Elm for a while but with a little one in tow you don’t always have the right opportunity. We attended last Sunday when there was a lovely garden for our toddler to run around and a bouncy castle (due to a special summer event). Sitting outside was perfect, with plenty of shade and a nice breeze running through the canopy. The food was fantastic. The roast beef was the best we have had out for a long time. Fish and chips was equally lovely with a light batter. We didn’t wait too long for food and we will definitely be returning.
