The Elgin is a bar & restaurant serving upscale fare situated just south of Rockefeller Center & steps from Broadway & Times Square. Our goal is to provide sophisticated cocktails, a carefully curated craft & seasonal beer list, amazing food in a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Please join us!
The Elgin’s 4 main principals, Peter Pernicone, Darwin Conner, Paul Baum & Christine Trauben, have known each other for 30 years. They all grew up on the lower west side of NYC in Chelsea & had a goal of owning a bar together & could not be more excited about opening The Elgin. As an acknowledgment of their collective history, they named a signature cocktail—the Chelsea 1724—after their neighborhood. Darwin & Paul grew up in Chelsea on 17th St and Peter & Christine lived on 24th St. They are joined by Patrick Callaghan who has been working with Peter for many years.

The tofu stir fry was so salty it was mostly inedible and I like salt, I typically salt my food at restaurants. Even if the saltiness had not been a factor, the flavor in general was not good. My husband ordered a NY strip steak which was tough and flavorless. The only thing ok to order is drinks. The service was good from hostess and waitress.

We went for an early dinner after a show. We had the mesz appetizer, fried chicken sandwich and the strip steak. Everything was delicious and the server and the rest of the staff were all very helpful and friendly. Great atmosphere and busy vibe.

Food was good but expensive for what it was. $90 bill for 3 meatballs, and 2 sandwiches with fries. Also they charged us for 2 Arnold Palmers but didn’t mention they charge for refills on them. So we paid $14 for one coke and 2 Arnold Palmer’s.

The service was excellent. The food was not a wow. It was comfortable and spacious. Very clean. The food was good American cuisine. Salt and pepper fries were tasty. The history which the restaurant was named after is very appropriate for the area.

The Elgin is a great find fairly close to the theater district. Cocktails are fantastic and the food is elevated bar food. Highly recommend.

Loud and lively. Service was exceptional. Food was what is expected for the price. Steak overcooked for medium and flavorless. Salmon also way overcooked for rare and also flavorless. Fries were great. Also the hummus app was great. Overall a pretty good experience. I’d go back just not expect too much from the food.
