Welcome to The Elephant Restaurant
The Elephant is a bright, informal restaurant which is situated near the beautiful Torbay harbour. It was the first restaurant in Torquay to be awarded a Michelin star which it maintains today. We aim to source all our ingredients locally and sustainably, many from our dedicated farm in Brixham.

Run by chef proprietor, Simon Hulstone and his wife Katy. Food is cooked by a talented team of chefs and served by friendly, professional team of staff.

Due to the style of cooking we cannot produce dairy free menus & therefore cannot provide vegan options.

A deposit is required to make reservations on special days of the year, on our special events, or for tables of 6 or more. This is paid over the phone by calling 01803 200044.

Children's menu is only available at lunch for ages 10 and under.

Tasting menu only available in the evening unless requested via phone in advance.

Service was great, very attentive. Food presentation was greater than flavour and texture, some dishes were overly complex and hid the main ingredient experience. Style over substance came to mind. Room ambience is loud, it’s a large room with spaced out seating, the room does need some sound treatment, which can help create a more relaxed and intimate dining experience. The price mark for all dishes are high, after seeing the multiple menus I’d expected more substantial to balance the style. It’s like buying a designer sink which looks great but holds very little water.

I’m a regular visitor to the Elephant, and are never disappointed, but last Friday lunchtime we had possibly our best meal ever there. Such a delicious variety of complex tastes and textures. Brilliant.

Lovely ambience. Tasting menu was exceptional and value for money. Staff very attentive and knowledgeable. Exceeded expectations. Would definitely recommend. We will definitely returning if visiting Torquay again

Superb in every way! Made very welcome, excellent service, very relaxing atmosphere and the food was out of this world. We had the lunchtime tasting menu and every dish was perfectly presented with outstanding flavours. We will definitely return.

Great team that accommodates the dietary challenges: Vegetarian and Gluten-free. Also place is fairly wheel chair accessible, BUT you do need to get up quite difficult doorway. Staff was very helpful, both to accommodate accessibility challenge and the dietary questions. we had a fantastic meal, bit pricy but worth it. we enjoyed every (gluten free) bite! (and drinks ;-) great wine choices per dish)

All courses are always masterfully executed and beautifully served. Great value for Michelin star quality. Brilliant!

We treated ourselves to the tasting menu with wine pairing and it was beautiful. What made it even more impressive was the fact that the whole harbour experienced a power cut during courses 1 to 4 but the staff and chefs were absolute pros and carried on regardless (even with most of the kitchen being electric powered) Honestly how they continued to deliver that quality of food during such adverse conditions is testament to the skill of each person working there and we couldn’t recommend The Elephant highly enough.

As on my previous visits, the food was excellent beautifully presented, the tasting menu courses and wines explained. Ambience was good. Service attentive, but not overbearing. That I was a solo diner made no difference. A power cut, affecting the local area, barely affected the front of house and the kitchen took it in it's stride.
