The Duke of Cleveland is situated on the Headland in Hartlepool, just a short distance from the coast and next to St Hilda's Church. It is a listed building and the oldest one still in use in the town. Our establishment is a restaurant and pub with an excellent reputation for serving traditional homemade British dishes. We take pride in sourcing produce from local businesses as much as possible and use these ingredients to create the best dishes for our patrons. Our signature dishes include Haddock in our special beer batter with hand-cut chips and the local speciality, the chicken parmesan. We believe in keeping things simple and making them well. On Sundays, we offer a traditional roast dinner with a choice of Roast Rib of Beef, Loin of Pork, Breast of Chicken or Lamb Shank.

The Duke of Cleveland is the ideal venue for weddings and other special occasions or events. It has a choice of function rooms suited to your requirements. In the summer months, we open our cosy bear garden.

    Visited for lunch on Saturday. Fabulous service, friendly staff and fantastic food. Great portions and great prices. This is our 3rd visit and we will definitely be back when in the area.

    Lovely Sunday lunch in a great location. Staff were helpful and attentive despite it being busy. Look forward to going again

    Food was good as usual. Service was exceptional. Difficult to say about ambience as we were the only diners but it was early in the day, however ambience is generally very good.

    A lovely, well-prepared meal, made how you like it. Service is brilliant with friendly, cheerful bar staff. Nice, clean, comfortable surroundings with a roaring fire. Would recommend and we will be returning.

    Food was quality. Service excellent. Friendly and went out of the way to help my mam who was in a wheelchair. We’ll be back.

    Food was extremely good in particular the chips were delicious. Service was very good, staff were very obliging.

    We had a delicious & very filling Lamb Shank Sunday lunch that had all the trimmings. Very impressed with the quality, the amount & the presentation. Staff were excellent, very welcoming, polite & friendly. It was our first visit to The Duke of Cleveland & we'll certainly be going back to try the Parmo & Burgers Highly recommend.
