The Duke of Cleveland is situated on the Headland in Hartlepool, just a short distance from the coast and next to St Hilda's Church. It is a listed building and the oldest one still in use in the town. Our establishment is a restaurant and pub with an excellent reputation for serving traditional homemade British dishes. We take pride in sourcing produce from local businesses as much as possible and use these ingredients to create the best dishes for our patrons. Our signature dishes include Haddock in our special beer batter with hand-cut chips and the local speciality, the chicken parmesan. We believe in keeping things simple and making them well. On Sundays, we offer a traditional roast dinner with a choice of Roast Rib of Beef, Loin of Pork, Breast of Chicken or Lamb Shank.

The Duke of Cleveland is the ideal venue for weddings and other special occasions or events. It has a choice of function rooms suited to your requirements. In the summer months, we open our cosy bear garden.

Visited here on a band night, we had the half lot and the fish cakes, both homemade and generous portions. Also had the upside down cheesecake which was delicious. Very busy however service was brilliant, also had a selection of zero lager which was amazing.

The food was incredible. It tasted so fresh and was so hot when it got to the table. Ordered a variety of dishes- steak, fish and pasta, as well as deserts- and all were amazing. Clean plates all round. The restaurant was so clean and the staff were friendly and efficient, nothing was too much trouble. Will not be my last visit.

My Mam is a wheelchair user and the staff were very kind to her insuring that she was not in a draft and the table space was comfortable for her .Access was good with the staff helping me by keeping doors open while we manoeuvred her wheelchair through, Sunday Lunch was lovely. WE all had a different roast meat, Huge homemade puddings , roast potatoes' and gravy . Staff could not have been more helpful and came over twice to ask if everything was ok. Very comfortable surroundings .

Visited for lunch on Saturday. Fabulous service, friendly staff and fantastic food. Great portions and great prices. This is our 3rd visit and we will definitely be back when in the area.

Food was good as usual. Service was exceptional. Difficult to say about ambience as we were the only diners but it was early in the day, however ambience is generally very good.

A lovely, well-prepared meal, made how you like it. Service is brilliant with friendly, cheerful bar staff. Nice, clean, comfortable surroundings with a roaring fire. Would recommend and we will be returning.
