The Duke Hotel is an independent, family-run gastro pub; a place to eat, drink and sleep.
Tucked away in the picturesque village of Hilmarton, we are serving locally sourced seasonal food in a relaxed and welcoming ambience. The Duke has a stunning beer garden overlooking the majestic beauty of Hilmarton's fields and countryside. The pub also offers 4 freshly renovated en-suite boutique hotel rooms, 5 pitches for caravan & motorhome and The Duchess lounge, the old coach house, which has been renovated and converted into a farm shop & tea room. The Duchess lounge is our hidden gem set in The Duke's ground. We offer a homemade selection of cakes, scones, teas & coffee, afternoon tea, cream tea, breakfast, brunch and lunch. The Duchess also offers a great space for private hire. We also have a small farm shop selling local raw honey, organic butter and milk, free-range eggs, fruit and vegetables from nearby farmers, flowers and lots of local produce and hand-crafted gift ideas.

Our free-house pub is situated in the quaint and rural village of Hilmarton in North Wiltshire, lying between the towns of Calne and Royal Wootton Bassett. The Duke is positioned on the main A3102 which links Lyneham to Calne. We are privileged to be surrounded by the North Wessex Downs National Landscape. As a result, the area is popular with walkers and cyclists as well as those visiting Calne and its numerous natural spots such as: Horsebrook Nature Trail, The Donkey Fields, Bowood Woodland Gardens, Castlefields Canal & River Park & Penn Wood - Wiltshire Wildlife Trust.

When you visit The Duke Hotel, there may be a few things you would like to know about the food we serve in our restaurant. Our suppliers: Our “ethos” is around the concept of sustainability. We only choose suppliers with a sustainability policy similar to ours, and we prefer choosing suppliers within a radius of 20 miles from our building. Small, independent, family-run business to the front! Our award-winning butcher supplies us with the best quality cuts from Wiltshire County and its surroundings, and our free-range eggs are laid only a stone’s throw away. We prefer investing in organic food such as our milk, butter, some cheese and wine, and we grow our own herbs and vegetables when possible. Our MSC-certified fishmonger ensures that our fish and seafood are caught sustainably and in the least impactful way on the ocean. We proudly choose species native to the cold coasts of England and Scotland. Local and Seasonal: We respect every ingredient in the kitchen, so we strive to use all parts of our food. Our food waste from the kitchen is then converted into compost used to grow our herbs and vegetables. Our menu changes every three months according to the season. We proudly blend classical gastronomic techniques with elements of European & Asian cuisines. - The Duke Hotel - Please note* All our food is prepared and freshly cooked on-premises. We do not eat out that much as I always feel disappointed when visiting pubs that I could have cooked it better myself !! After hearing good reviews from other friends that had visited the duke hotel and looking at the menu online we decided to book. We were not disappointed!! We were a party of 4 and 3 of us decided to have the 2 course lunch which was great value for money and food fabulous as was the service. We were looked after well by the friendly host. We will definitely be coming back !

Superb experience from start to finish. I popped to The Duchess during the day and purchased some beautiful cupcakes and flowers for the birthday girl. We were a late booking for a large group of 8 with a number of dietary requirements which were all met without fuss. Our starters were divine including the Caviar and Roe starter which we ordered at the last minute (100% recommend). Everyone very much enjoyed their starters, then on to the mains. I had carelessly left off one of the orders but this was picked up and filled in super quick time, and again without fuss. All 8 meals were absolutely fantastic with the lamb causing the most food envy around the table but with 8 empty plates, everyone enjoyed what they had ordered. I had the celariac which was to die for. We opted not to have desserts as we had a 9 year old with us and had bought the cakes for home already. The drinks options were great, we enjoyed a bottle of Cremant, a much preferred alternative to the age old Prosecco most places serve now. The red wine was lovely and service all round was fantastic. I could not recommend highly enough. This is a fairly new restaurant but they are adventurous with their menu plans, serving delicious food, piping hot with great service on the side. Kudos to all the team, thank you and well done.

Nice roast dinner today for 2 of us.We chose beef and pork, both very tasty and good portion size. The day was marginally spoiled by being very close to a very load group on the next table.

We are regulars at The Duke. As ever, Brandon and the team produced excellent fare and service in pleasant surroundings. Quite clear that other diners were also enjoying themselves.

Absolutely faultless. The Duke is a fantastic restaurant but the Sunday Lunch is incredible. Has a meal with friends today, kicking off with some fantastic cocktails. Food and service were excellent as always. Very highly recommended.

We pre-ordered as a large group, we were surprised when the food appeared within 10 minutes of sitting down. The order was delivered correctly. However whilst all group members found the food tasty it was all lukewarm which was disappointing. Table service could have been better in asking if we needed more drinks etc. Overall we all felt it was good food but clearly could have been hotter, being served on cold plates did not help.

Love The Duke! The Sunday lunch is outstanding and Brandon is a superb front of house. We’re lucky to have such a brilliant restaurant in our village.
