Great food, fine ales, plenty of gin and a friendly atmosphere – what more could you want from a restaurant and country pub! 2024 has seen an extensive £150,000 refurbishment creating a stylish and contemporary restaurant & country pub..

Set in the tiny, picturesque village of Skipwith only ten miles south of York, it is the main destination inn in the area. The delicious created dishes on our menu are locally sourced and reflect the changing seasons, mirroring the wonderful walks to be found through Skipwith Common, right on its doorstep.

Short notice decision to have lunch out - Drover’s Arms fits the bill for a pleasant location within a relatively short drive. No problem with booking and received a friendly greeting on arrival. Good choice between a set menu (2 or 3 course option) and a la carte. My wife decided on the beer battered fish lightweight portion - still a very good serving with plenty of chunky chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce. I had the gammon steak with fried egg, pineapple and, again, plenty of chunky chips. The fried egg had been cooked on a very hot surface resulting in a hard ‘skin’ base but still runny yolk. The gammon was very salty but a lovely cu5 of meat. £50 for two mains, glass of wine and pint of beer - a bit heavy for a mid-week lunch but nonetheless made enjoyable by attentive service.

Party of 6 booked for lunch at 13.30 No starters and mains arrived at 14.40. Two items on the short lunch menu were not available. Having eaten here before I was surprised at the drop in standards. Hopefully only temporary.”

Hi David, Thanks for taking the time to leave this review, Yesterday was a tough day, let down with deliveries, we were a chef down in the kitchen. I can only apologise this was to happen on your return visit & assure you the next time you visit this certainly won't be a repeat occurrence. We had booked our table for 3pm on a Sunday afternoon. It was very busy but the staff were very attentive, service was very good and the food is fantastic. I am coeliac and dairy intolerant I never have any difficulties eating here. There were two tables of 10 which added to a great atmosphere.

Not happy with our visit , service poor , requested water on table didn’t get any , no one came and asked how our food was , two out of 4 meals good , the steak was like rubber and dearest item on menu not good , and the pie was ok but said came with seasonal veg it had bit of cabbage sprinkled on top , very disappointing will not revisit , the pub looks really nice from outside and inside is lovely , all about the appearance not the food

Terrine full of veg, not mentioned in the description, other 2 starters ok. Mains: Gammon toughest piece of meat ever, rabbit ok but pasta sauce was an insipid tomato creation, pork was ok lamb cutlets were very good (out of 4 mains, two were very poor, one was ok one was good), desserts, lemon tangy tart was appalling (just go to the supermarket and get a tarte au citron - they actually taste of lemon), apple crumble - consisted of 90% stewed apple (over cooked and poor flavour) and 10% crumble (which was ok) - melt in the middle pudding was good. £180 for the meal did not represent good value. Service was good. Have been 4 times this year, but am unlikely to come back.

Another lovely lunch at The Drovers. Such a relaxed atmosphere, great service and an excellent menu choice. The triple cooked chips are some of the best I've tasted, also really enjoyed the halloumi wrap. Thanks.
