Great food, fine ales, plenty of gin and a friendly atmosphere – what more could you want from a restaurant and country pub! 2024 has seen an extensive £150,000 refurbishment creating a stylish and contemporary restaurant & country pub..

Set in the tiny, picturesque village of Skipwith only ten miles south of York, it is the main destination inn in the area. The delicious created dishes on our menu are locally sourced and reflect the changing seasons, mirroring the wonderful walks to be found through Skipwith Common, right on its doorstep.

Love the venue high quality decor very comfortable seating. The food was very good and tasty lamb shank was amazing others in the party had the chicken pie and loved it a couple has sea bass and one had the liver all loved their choices. Will definitely be going again.

Expensive - pork and beef very thinly sliced, the pork was really fatty

we chose a pub with good food for a quick Sunday lunch. We chose well, the food was delicious and we wished we could have had a dessert but we were a little full. The food was served in a very attractive way, with delicious crispy potatoes and an amazing huge Yorkshire pudding. The only reason I slightly marked this down a little was due to being served by a very friendly but new server. I am sure in future it would be full marks. I am sure we will be back in the future and we do not even live nearby! Well done.

Lovely place good variety of food , service needs tweaking , but girls very pleasant otherwise , food could have been a little hotter .

Our booking was 1pm on Sunday. Arrived at 12.55 shown to our table. We then had someone take our order for drinks which took awhile to arrive. When our food order was taken it took 40 minutes to arrive at our table. There were no vegetables with it, asked a waitress who went to chase them up. When they arrived, the carrot/swede mash was nearly cold, the red cabbage was the same only the broccoli was warm. The Yorkshire pudding wasn’t very warm either. I complained to a waitress who offered to replace the vegetables but I refused as the rest of the meal would have been cold by the time they arrived. My husbands pie was excellent and hot but as we were sharing vegetables he was disappointed to find them lukewarm!! We didn’t stay for dessert. We were given complimentary drinks when we received the bill. I was very disappointed and probably won’t visit there again
