Great food, fine ales, plenty of gin and a friendly atmosphere – what more could you want from a restaurant and country pub! 2024 has seen an extensive £150,000 refurbishment creating a stylish and contemporary restaurant & country pub..

Set in the tiny, picturesque village of Skipwith only ten miles south of York, it is the main destination inn in the area. The delicious created dishes on our menu are locally sourced and reflect the changing seasons, mirroring the wonderful walks to be found through Skipwith Common, right on its doorstep.

A lovely experience. We dined over the lunch period and the menu was extensive and good value for money. The staff were super attentive and very accommodating with our dog who accompanied us. They gave us the best table available to allow Chester to get down on his mat next to the table while we dined. As it was a birthday occasion we actually ran over the 3.00 closure , but we weren’t hurried out ; the manager was very friendly and courteous and told us to take our time while he tied round . A very pleasant birthday lunch. We would definitely recommend this restaurant not only for the food but also for the lovely attention to detail and outstanding customer care .

Very nice food at an average price and good portion sizes, staff very attentive and wait time for food acceptable. Good selection of beers and wines at average prices. Restaurant was busy with quite high noise levels which did detract from the atmosphere and occasion.

Excellent service, staff very helpful & friendly, ambience quiet & comfortable, food excellent. Recently refurbished to a high standard. Great experience will definitely go back highly recommended.

We are working hard on this so there isn't a repeat occurrence. Regarding your yorkshire pudding & roast potato issue- i have spoken to the chefs on duty with your feedback, and can only further apologise on this front. Overpriced with very small portions. Starters are a joke at £10 each. £5.25 for a pint of beer and £4.50 for a latte. Tables for 2 are very small, making for an uncomfortable evening.

wonderful family occasion celebrating an 80th birthday. Unfortunately some of the family weren't able to be there (living abroad). We had a lovely quiet corner and everyone enjoyed their meal including vegans and vegetarians and us "normal" people! We've been before and will be back.

I would recommend if you're going for the flatiron steak sharing board which is what I was venturing over to try this visit as I'd seen this advertised on a social media platform, that when you book your table you mention that you'd like to pre order them as unfortunately for me when I turned up they was all out of them. I went for the lamb shank alternative and my friend went for the steak pie, both were well presented and very filling, portion size was OK and value for money was on par for most gastro pubs nowadays. I think only thing missing from the meal was encorporating locally sourced seasonal veg into the mains and not optional extras. As I was unable to enjoy there sharing board this time and I think seasonal veg from local farmers would of been a nice addition to the mains. I think 4 out of 5 star rating is right. I would happily return again to sample the sharing board.

Food was very very good, highly recommend the Prawn & Squid starter. The steaks were high quality and a lovely dessert. Lovely pub/restaurant in a stunning setting. Highly recommend visiting, you won't be disappointed. Choice and drinks is excellent and waiting staff are attentive and professional. A really well run place that we will be visiting again.
