Great food, fine ales, plenty of gin and a friendly atmosphere – what more could you want from a restaurant and country pub! 2024 has seen an extensive £150,000 refurbishment creating a stylish and contemporary restaurant & country pub..

Set in the tiny, picturesque village of Skipwith only ten miles south of York, it is the main destination inn in the area. The delicious created dishes on our menu are locally sourced and reflect the changing seasons, mirroring the wonderful walks to be found through Skipwith Common, right on its doorstep.

Today they were a little slow in bringing our wine. Did not ask about allergies, forgot our mint and apple sauce, but otherwise this place is a little gem. We like to come, relax and enjoy the special atmosphere, the outstanding food and know there is no rush. This place is well worth the money and you need to visit to understand just how amazing it is.

Firstly we were welcomed and shown to our table, we weren’t kept waiting which was nice. Staff were very attentive and we ordered our food. The food arrived VERY quickly which was fab as we were all very hungry. I asked if I could have normal mash instead of the carrot & swede mash as per the menu, they were very obliging and I got my mash. The food even though it was very tasty was only luke warm and I struggled to cut my roast potatoes! This led me to think that with the speed the food came out it wasn’t necessarily fresh BUT as I previously said our meals were very nice and we’d definitely visit again. The fact that we could take our pooch along with us was a major bonus.

Elevated for a Sunday dinner without loosing a country pubs charm. The staff were really good with little kiddos as well. Fast service. Almost too fast as we didn't have a massive amount of time to settle in before the food arrived. In our case that was fine as small children make settling into anything difficult but just a note. We had the Sunday lunch, The beef was fantastic, pink and generous. Yorkshire's were great and side veggies tasty. Roast potatoes let the side down a little, felt like they'd been sat out for a while but only a small issue. I will say the additional parsnips whilst delicious felt a little pricey at £5. Overall though a really enjoyable meal.

This is definitely a restaurant not a pub and the layout and prices reflect this. We were greeted well and taken straight to our table and staff were polite. The menu choices were as shown on the website with a limited number of specials (one already sold out at 7pm on Saturday!) . The lamb chops were disappointing. The menu clearly states they will be served pink, but they were too small and thin to a achieve this! In all a small meal for a large price. The monkfish and prawn special was flavoured well, and came with loads of rice. However, prawns with shells on served in a curry sauce means you need a finger bowl and napkins to cope with the mess ! (restaurant trained staff would spot this!) We waited 30 minutes for a dessert menu , eventually having to ask for it from the waitress who was standing a few feet from our table ignoring us! The choices are limited and it is clear that this is not an area of the menu with any special focus. Three flavours of ice cream and no choices with the cheese ( the menu says there are!) were again disappointing. I cannot remember the last time basic 'cream crackers' were provided on a cheese board with no variation ! We ordered drinks during our meal and had to remind staff on both occasions after waiting with empty glasses. The ambiance of the Drovers Arms is good, and money has clearly been spent to develop it. It was busy, as we would expect on a Saturday, and whilst there seemed to be plenty of staff around, there is an obvious need for some additional money to spent on training if the aim is to reach restaurant standard. Most of our concerns are easily addressed and I am sure the Drovers Arms are still developing their menus and team. These small things make a big difference when you are charging premium prices.

I had the lamb shank. Beautifully cooked and presented. I ate every bit. At first, I thought the meals were slightly overpriced but that meal was worth every penny. The staff were lovely too. ❤️
