Rockwall native, Chef David Hoffman and his wife, restaurant and wine industry veteran Jenni Hoffman, opened The Downing Bottles & Bites in order to bring their experience and expertise home to historic Downtown Rockwall. When you stop in, you'll be greeted by our retail and tasting area, where you can purchase wine and craft beer by the bottle to enjoy at home.
Or stay awhile in our cozy café, where Chef David and his team serve up the very best small plates, sandwiches, and salads, desserts. Our full-bar offers seasonal and classic cocktails, fine wines, and craft beer. With both indoor and patio seating, it's the best spot for a date, girl's night, family dinner, or quick weekday lunch in Rockwall.

This small and very local restaurant is a gem. It's a great people watching, wine curator, interesting food spot for people looking for a great place to hang out. Go. Go when you get a chance.

The food and wine were delicious. The hostess and our server were friendly and helpful. The restaurant had a welcoming community vibe. We look forward to enjoying the experience again soon.

This is a local gem that is in Rockwall’s fabulous square. Food was great and service was friendly and attentive. We will be back!!

Menu is simple and straightforward but so delicious. Good selection of wine and beer. Had a great experience. Small and quaint space with a patio.

This is the best restaurant in Rockwall. Not just great food but the entire staff go out of their way to give you a wonderful experience. My favorite place!!

Food is always awesome! That patio our favorite, could be cleaned up a bit to get a five star rating. Overall definitely one of our favorite local places.

We had a great time at the Downing. I'll start by saying the service is wonderful. A lovely young man took care of us, and he really knew the menu. That's a big deal to me, I find so many times that servers can't answer basic questions, but that is not the case here. The food was really good. We started with the sardines, which were exceptional. The brie was also very good, I had the ham and pea risotto, which was good but not as awesome as the apps. Our friends split a Cuban sandwich and said it was very good. My husband had the Italian beef. I am from Chicago and will say that while the sandwich is not a traditional Chicago Italian beef sandwich, it's delicious! The giardiniera was delicious and not crazy spicy. We split the smores and berry tart for dessert and loved both. You get to roast the marshmallows at the table. I'll finish by saying the ambiance is wonderful. The dining room is small and cozy with a warm and inviting vibe. The patio also looked lovely. We'll be back!
