Kieran, Dallas, and the team welcome you to our beautiful pub. Recently refurbished, the Devonshire sits right in the heart of Hartington, the beautiful village at the northern end of Dovedale in the scenic and ever popular Derbyshire Peak District.

The Devonshire Arms is the perfect place to stop and relax whilst visiting the area for a tasty lunch, whether by yourself or with friends and family. We serve a delicious seasonal local menu with something for everyone. From the bar you’ll find a range of cask ales, craft beer, lager and cider alongside an extensive selection of wines, gins and soft drinks.
We do not take bookings for lunch Mon-Sat, we operate a walk in service only.

We booked here for 2 nights as we was staying in the village , and found the Friday night ok , you order at the bar , but Saturday was table serviced and found service wasn't good , we waited over half hour and the waitress came over and told us we had a wait as a big table was in front of us , which we said was fine , till we see people next to us came half hour later than us and got there food straight away , so we did ask the waitress , how come ? And she said she did notice it too and would try to get ours sorted, so we ended up waiting 50 mins in the end . So 2 nights and 2 different experiences , think that should stick to order at the bar as they couldn't cope with table service .

We are sorry for the experience on Saturday night, we had a very large party, which arrived late, and ordered late which caused a knock on effect to all other tables. We have learnt from this, and wont be taking such large bookings again. With regards to the table next to you, their meals were able to come out a lot faster because of what they ordered. With such a large booking we had ran out of oven space which caused a delay on your order and others, however anyone that ordered burgers for example, we were able to cook straight away. We did check your order, and you were at 38 mins for mains, even this we agree is too long, so please do accept our apology for a lesson learnt.

None of it was great. Wrong drinks brought, wine tasted off. Very short staffed so had to get a few things ourselves. Calamari was rubbery and batter not cooked. Ordered several side dishes and none were good. Long wait on food. I’m assuming the problems were down to how busy it was and it was probably so busy as the other pub in the village had closed their kitchen. I would have complained at least about the food but I felt bad for the one lovely lady who was working, she had a lot on! The lad who was working was pretty rude when my friend explained her drink didn’t taste like what she’d ordered, that she always orders. So I didn’t bother saying about my wine. To be honest we just wanted to eat and leave asap

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We were very busy on the night you visited, but this is not unusual, however on this night, we had a lot of very large parties, which affected our service and other tables. We have learnt from this and will not let this happen again. We apologise for the wrong drink, which I have been told was rectified, and apologies for the wine not being to your liking, it certainly wasn’t off. We wished you had said something to Barbara on the evening, when she checked back with yourselves, as we think its fair we have the chance to make things right, but with a negative review, all we can do is apologise. We will have a chat with the team to see where we can improve service.

Calm environment. Cheerful, efficient staff. Great food! The boozy shepherd’s pie was outstanding. Suggest booking a table in advance - very popular.

Nice pub with friendly staff. All food and drink has to be ordered at the bar. Food was served hot and without a long wait but portion sizes small and disappointing in view of the cost.
