The year was 1943, and Jim and Alice Wimmer decided to take a big risk, buying a small existing roadside restaurant known for its char-broiled steaks. How fitting that in 2018, the restaurant's 75th anniversary year, the third generation of Wimmers, Amy Wimmer, takes the helm from her father Jeff and his wife Jane, bringing her own adventurous spirit to the Del-Bar, the same kind of spirit she so admired in her grandparents. Had a Great time celebrating our Anniversary with the Del-bar! Charlie are server was awesome. She treated us like we were very special! Food is always the best!

Always a great experience! We arrived a little early so we had a quick drink at the very busy bar, and were seated right at our reservation time. The steak was as good as I remember as a child. Thanks for the memories!

A must visit every time I’m in the area. Filet Mignon is overpriced for the quality of the meat. Everything else on pointe. Great old Fashioneds and grasshoppers.

Love their Friday night fish and tried the panko crusted broiled fish for the first time. It was light and not drowning in butter like so many places make broiled fish so it definitely is a lighter option. Of course, had to have the hashbrowns which always have a perfect crust on top. Service was top notch as usual.

I have been looking forward to making the 3 hour drive and visiting this WI landmark restaurant for a few years. It just never seemed to work out. The wife and I changed that last night. They do take reservations, but we could only get 5:00PM. The place was already hopping. We informed the host station of our arrival, and had followed two couples in to the restaurant. Strangely enough, a couple came in after us and got seated ahead of us, but this did not seem like a big deal. The only table left, however, was next to the server station next to a doorway into another room. If this place had any ambience, it surely was not apparent from this location. We started out with a Brandy Old Fashioned, and it was fine. We both thought $13 was rather high. We started with escargot, and it was quite delicious. Lots of garlic and a generous serving. I got the house salad, and my wife got the spinach salad. The spinach salad was really good and a generous portion. The warm bacon dressing was different and tasty. I got the house salad, which looked like half fell off the plate, it was a little wilted, and it was less than interesting. It must have been a leftover salad from the day before. (Get the spinach salad!!!). For entrees, I got the boneless ribeye and the wife got the fish fry. The cod had a pretty thick batter, and respectfully, a corner bar would have done better. The ribeye was cooked perfectly. I had ordered medium to medium-rare. It was a ~10 oz steak and was about 3/8” thick. There was nothing wrong with the steak, but it definitely was a bit on the higher side at ~$55. It was good, not great. The hash browns stole the show (next to the escargot). The sauteed onions in them were done very well. Dinner was finished off with a good double espresso. A couple of drinks, a glass of wine, and good dinner. Was it worth $200? I might have had a different disposition with a more interesting seating arrangement, but there are better places by far.
