Located in St. Sampsons Square - a historic part of York’s city centre known for selling great meat since the 12th century - The Cut & Craft York is widely considered one of York’s best steak restaurants.

Boasting its own in-house master butcher and a signature 10oz Flat Iron steak, this elegant restaurant is stylishly decorated with historic features throughout. Open daily for lunch and dinner, with brunch and roasts on the weekends, it’s centrally located close to the famous mediaeval York Shambles and under the shadow of York Minster.

Named 'Restaurant of the Year' at the Yorkshire National Business Hero Awards in 2023 and 2024, The Cut & Craft combines contemporary steak and seafood dishes with a premium list of locally-crafted drinks.

After visiting the Leeds Cut and Craft which was amazing we decided to try the York Cut and Craft, first impressions it was busy and noisy. After a short wait we were shown to our table which was in a draughty corner. We felt the staff weren’t as attentive and helpful as the staff in Leeds. We ordered a chateaubriand which we had also ordered in Leeds and we asked if we could have it done half and half well done and medium the waitress told us they didn’t do it like that we explained that Leeds suggested we did it that way, the waitress has to go away and ask and she told us they wouldn’t normally do it but on this occasion they would. Towards the end of our meal we felt they were hovering for our table. Would we go back to York no, would we go back to Leeds definitely.

Amazing place! Went for my 40th birthday and it felt special! Food amazing, the cocktails were impressive. Overall highly recommend!

I’m teetotal and ordered a low/no alcohol drink. After a couple of mouthfuls I realised it wasn’t what I ordered and asked that it was checked. I was then informed they’d given me an alcoholic drink. It completely ruined the evening for us despite the food being very nice. The offer to reduce our bill by the drink was an insult and only after complaining to the manager did we get a small additional discount.

Excellent service. Food was nice but not good value. Sides are very expensive for what they are. Desserts are a complete rip off

The staff were friendly and efficient so we gave a 10% tip but the sirloin steak at £30 was a third fat - this the price for the steak only too!! Over priced.

Went for our wedding. We honestly were treated so well I couldn't have gone to a better place to enjoy our day. Thank you to all the staff you all made it such a wonderful day. The food was fabulous and the drinks were impeccable!!! Thank you all!!!

Nice buzzy atmosphere for a cold mid week January evening - but soo loud it was hard to hear anybody speak we couldn’t hear the servers and ourselves . Service is very expedient but it makes the evening very rushed . The food is expensive but overall the food is good , staff very friendly . Nice booth table French onion soup ok , king prawn starter very good . Scallop starter nice but only 3 scallops and they were small . T bone steak cones on a ridiculous board I hate eating food on wooden boards . Burger was huge and nice . Caesar salad nice but lacked big chunky croutons . Parmesan fries are very nice .

Lovely, relaxed atmosphere, with great food, cocktails and service. One of the best places we’ve been to in York over 5 visits here! Fantastic place to enjoy a celebratory meal. Highly recommend!
