Located in St. Sampsons Square - a historic part of York’s city centre known for selling great meat since the 12th century - The Cut & Craft York is widely considered one of York’s best steak restaurants.

Boasting its own in-house master butcher and a signature 10oz Flat Iron steak, this elegant restaurant is stylishly decorated with historic features throughout. Open daily for lunch and dinner, with brunch and roasts on the weekends, it’s centrally located close to the famous mediaeval York Shambles and under the shadow of York Minster.

Named 'Restaurant of the Year' at the Yorkshire National Business Hero Awards in 2023 and 2024, The Cut & Craft combines contemporary steak and seafood dishes with a premium list of locally-crafted drinks.

    Lovely meal with great service and amazing cocktails and coffees. The music was a little too loud and would have preferred a more easy listening sound but I would still book again as the food and menu was really good.

    Starter was a bit soggy which was disappointing (tempura) My steak and prawn salad was not as great as in Leeds branch unfortunately. Great shame as I wanted to treat my friend to same level of service as in Leeds especially food.

    Party of 4 ordered two Chateaubriand Steaks arrived as cooked requested but served on cold slates which meant the slice steak went cold straight away Manager apologised and had the whole order re done including side dishes . The second serving arrived on piping hot slates. But would have preferred it right the first time as had to wait a further half hour . Manager gave complimentary glass of wine for inconvenience to each diner

    The Cut and Craft is a really nice place, lots of attentive staff, Pete was very good. Food was also good, I ha d the French onion soup which was lovey and thick for a change. I also had the fillet steak which although was very tasty, had a strange spongy texture which detracted from the over all eating experience. Having said that would recommend and I will go again, but I’ll give the fillet steak a miss.
