Located in St. Sampsons Square - a historic part of York’s city centre known for selling great meat since the 12th century - The Cut & Craft York is widely considered one of York’s best steak restaurants.

Boasting its own in-house master butcher and a signature 10oz Flat Iron steak, this elegant restaurant is stylishly decorated with historic features throughout. Open daily for lunch and dinner, with brunch and roasts on the weekends, it’s centrally located close to the famous mediaeval York Shambles and under the shadow of York Minster.

Named 'Restaurant of the Year' at the Yorkshire National Business Hero Awards in 2023 and 2024, The Cut & Craft combines contemporary steak and seafood dishes with a premium list of locally-crafted drinks.

    This was our first visit to The Cut & Craft and I will definitely be coming back. The atmosphere was great. There were lots of people enjoying their food and catching up with friends. Was lovely to see. The service was quicker than I thought it would be. It was very busy but we didn’t have to wait long for our food to come. I had the calamari starter which was some of the best I’ve had in a very long time. Followed by the lamb chops for my main. Again, this was delicious. The others on my table had the fish and chips which I was told was very tasty. We also had a vegan with us who had the veggie shepherds pie and there was not a crumb left. The cocktails were also exceptional. Perfect start to the Christmas period celebrations. We will definitely be back to try some of the other food.

    We had the Sunday lunch sharing platter and sticky toffee pudding and it was amazing! Expensive but so so good!! The sticky toffee was amazing too. The staff were brilliant so helpful.

    Very welcoming. We went as a large group that included 5 children. The waiting staff were incredibly friendly and kind with the children and made us feel very welcomed. Food was delicious and good value for the quality that it was. We will definitely be returning!

    Our experience at the cut and craft could have been better. We selected the establishment because of it being central to the York Christmas market. Our plan was to visit the market followed by dinner! Our reservation was for 7.30pm. We had completed the market by 7.00 and because the restaurant was so central we planned to ask if there was availability earlier if not we were happy to wait in the bar area having a few pre dinner cocktails. This is were we had the doorman dismiss our request to even ask if there was earlier reservations! He flatly told us no! He then specifically told us there wasn’t a bar area, he told us to leave and come back at exactly 7.30. On our return at 7.30 we enter the premises and immediately see 3or 4 empty tables at the drinks area. Surely it would have made more sense to encourage customers to spend and enjoy the cut & craft’s ambiance for 30 mins than to send us out to find another place to spend!!

    Absolutely wondetfulin every way! We regularly eat out in fine dining establishments and this restaurant was amongst the best. This was a birthday treat for my fiancé and he was very impressed and had a wonderful memorable evening.     Had a great time here for my husbands 50th birthday. There were 9 of us but service was superb even when my son who asked for his steak to be done a bit more they brought a brand new steak out for him. Lovely surroundings to and although busy didn’t feel it. Would definitely go back again.

    A great evening and the food was exceptional. The restaurant was full but you didn’t seemed rushed. Giulia is an asset to your company who was polite and attentive.
