Located in St. Sampsons Square - a historic part of York’s city centre known for selling great meat since the 12th century - The Cut & Craft York is widely considered one of York’s best steak restaurants.

Boasting its own in-house master butcher and a signature 10oz Flat Iron steak, this elegant restaurant is stylishly decorated with historic features throughout. Open daily for lunch and dinner, with brunch and roasts on the weekends, it’s centrally located close to the famous mediaeval York Shambles and under the shadow of York Minster.

Named 'Restaurant of the Year' at the Yorkshire National Business Hero Awards in 2023 and 2024, The Cut & Craft combines contemporary steak and seafood dishes with a premium list of locally-crafted drinks.

We went for sirloin steak and chips the steak was as hard to cut and eat, when we told our waiter he basically ignored the fact. Won’t be going back there !!

Lovely place would 100% recommend. The food was gorgeous, really tasty, good portions and nice and fresh. Drinks were really good also, we tried some of the signature cocktails and they were really tasty and fun! Our sever Pete was also great! Few teething issues but they were happy to help, think seats by the kitchen aka fire need to be rethought, we asked to move as it was just toooo hot! We were also asked to move after having the table for only an hour and a half, i think this should be mentioned when you book. Felt very rushed and eager to move us to serve others.

Great place, the building is really nice and the ambience is great. Service was also really good. Food was good, but expected more from their signature flat iron steak, which was just ok.

We waited for quite a while for our food order to number taken but once it was the service was excellent. Noise level was high & difficult to have a conversation but as usual the food was fantastic. Good night had by all

Booked for my partners birthday. We were greeted with smiles into a warm and welcoming entrance. From there we were shown to our table to begin our dinning experience. A delightful waitress named Jessica took our orders. Which included a nice bottle of red, to accompany the steak and forest burger. Whilst all the food was amazing we both agree the truffle chips were a particular highlight. Overall the place is worth the money both from the style and accommodating nature right through to its helpful and welcoming staff If you’re in York book a table and don’t miss out.

From entering the premises we were looked after, we were early for our reservation but were shown to a table to have a drink until our table was ready, the waiter was excellent and explained the menus and answered any questions we asked. Meal was excellent and a fair price

The food and service was amazing! We all had steaks and you couldn’t fault them - cooked beautifully. I felt that having to buy all your side dishes separately made the cost quite high. It was £48 for a t bone steak that was served with just a single tomato. Once you add 2 sides it was another £12. Just seemed a little expensive. The 24 carat chic desert was incredible!! Only disappointing thing was both the draught beer and the draught larger were ‘off’ my husband only drinks bitter so that was a little poor especially when there were no other options of a bitter even in a bottle to choose. However the food was beautiful and the service was great!

Excellent food and attentive and friendly service. My only complaint would be that the music was too loud and competed with the chatter of dinners enjoying themselves

Excellent service from all staff throughout, they couldn't be kinder. A very appreciated touch of a birthday card for my other half as we were there celebrating her birthday. This was our first visit, and based on the excellent service and food, it will be the first of many
