Located in St. Sampsons Square - a historic part of York’s city centre known for selling great meat since the 12th century - The Cut & Craft York is widely considered one of York’s best steak restaurants.

Boasting its own in-house master butcher and a signature 10oz Flat Iron steak, this elegant restaurant is stylishly decorated with historic features throughout. Open daily for lunch and dinner, with brunch and roasts on the weekends, it’s centrally located close to the famous mediaeval York Shambles and under the shadow of York Minster.

Named 'Restaurant of the Year' at the Yorkshire National Business Hero Awards in 2023 and 2024, The Cut & Craft combines contemporary steak and seafood dishes with a premium list of locally-crafted drinks.

Having had your messages to confirm my booking and turning up 10 minutes early I was surprised to be told that my table was not available and was told to wait at some convenient table while others could be seen to their seats So after some apologies and not being able to get a reasonable explanation as to why we were kept waiting we were eventually shown to our table The steaks were fine but the rest of the food mediocre at best As I did not pay the bill I cannot reasonably expect to comment on the value but I can assure you that your management and my experience leaves a lot to be desired and will not be rebooking in the immediate future As this experience was for my mother’s 91st birthday and the card and dessert was appreciated it was marred by the delay and poor response to my booking and after a referral from friends I was very disappointed

We had the most amazing meal for our bride to be. The waiter Will was so attentive. The food was outstanding along with the service. The added touch with the balloons was just what we asked for.

Good atmosphere and lovely decor but food isn’t that good anymore. Steak was tasteless also the tomatoes bruschetta tasteless. . Overall, expensive for what you get.

Excellent food and service was fantastic! The restaurant is on the pricey side but we thoroughly enjoyed our evening here and would definitely go again when visiting York.

Lovely meal for my partners birthday. Staff were friendly, food was lovely and the setting was very cosy. Would recommend this restaurant

I will NOT say a bad word about Cut and Craft. Remember to book in advance - we saw walk-in diners turned away - but our table was excellent, as were the staff, the steaks were superb and the Cut and Craft Lager very drinkable. We went twice during our week's stay. There was only one small problem - it's a small thing - they stopped serving the best Tiramisu dessert I'd ever had, which I had dreamed about since my last visit, so instead I tried the Baked Alaska. I don't know what I got but it never saw Alaska in its' life. Ice cream with a soggy white mess over it, no crisp meringue, no heat at all, just a cold shaving foam over ice cream. I didn't leave any of it but declined on the second night. It didn't spoil the meal in any way and if I'm back in York I'll call in again with no hesitation.

Quite possibly the best steak we have had.. we had the Chaterbriand. OMG can only describe it!! First time trying it and would certainly be back for it!! Thanks soo much for a lovely evening
