Located in St. Sampsons Square - a historic part of York’s city centre known for selling great meat since the 12th century - The Cut & Craft York is widely considered one of York’s best steak restaurants.

Boasting its own in-house master butcher and a signature 10oz Flat Iron steak, this elegant restaurant is stylishly decorated with historic features throughout. Open daily for lunch and dinner, with brunch and roasts on the weekends, it’s centrally located close to the famous mediaeval York Shambles and under the shadow of York Minster.

Named 'Restaurant of the Year' at the Yorkshire National Business Hero Awards in 2023 and 2024, The Cut & Craft combines contemporary steak and seafood dishes with a premium list of locally-crafted drinks.

Great food! Amazing service! We had a wonderful Caesar salad and flat iron steak that I only needed a fork to cut.

The service was poor , steak was cooked wrong had to wait 20 mins for steak to be recooked ,, absolutely shocking meal for the price

The whole experience was fabulous from the door staff who greeted us, the front of house team showing us to the table, our waiter, the food and drinks all first class!

Gorgeous food, service was a little slow. We had to ask several times for extra condiments. But otherwise great!

I try to visit York at least once a year and the last five visits Cut and Craft is what we look forward to. You will receive an excellent welcome and everything is very chilled. Everyone has their own opinions on restaurants but we can't fault this place and every time we have visited it's been really busy so that tells you something. The food is delicious and the service is very good indeed. Looking forward to August and we will definitely be booking a table again.

Service was very slow. Took ages to get us a drink. Meat very fatty. Had to return mash twice as it was cold. Service didn't seem to care.

I booked a table for two at the Cut & Cradt, York to take my wife there on a birthday treat. Booking online was easy to do and afterwards there was great communication and SMS confirmation alerts. The place itself is fabulous and we were welcomed and shown to our table by Nikki, a lovely host. Our Polish server Malgorzara was a delight and once we ordereded we did not have to wait long for our good. While we were waiting my wife commented on how perfect the ambience was, with background music at the right level. Unfortunately just before our food arrived a party of 3 couples were shown to a table behind us. They were celebrating a 40th birthday, judging by the banner one of the girls was wearing. They were extremely loud and you could hear a lot of swearing going on in their conversation. However, that was not the restaurants fault and although we could have done without it, it did not spoil the experience too much. We had ordered rib eye steaks and they were delicious. My wife had her steak cooked medium with blue cheese sauce and I had mine medium to well done with one of the best peppercorn sauces I have tasted. They were both cooked perfectly and the sides of chips, onion rings and mushrooms were spot on. After desert my wife was surprised with a complimentary strawberry sorbet, with fresh strawberries and a candle to blow out as an additional birthday treat, along with a card from the restaurant. Neither were requested by me, so it was an rant and very welcome surprise. I can highly recommend this restaurant was very happy to pay the optional service charge. I can honestly say the the service by all the staff was the best I have received in the UK. We are looking forward to visiting the Cut & Craft in York again. Thank you to all involved for making the day a special day for my wife’s birthday.
