In sleepy Fairlight, on the edge of the Firehills, The Cove is an independently run freehouse serving locals, wanderers and gastronauts alike. Halfway between Hastings and Rye, The Cove is the perfect stop after a walk across the local beaches and coastal paths of East Sussex. We have a fire for the winter nights, a garden for summer days, and a friendly bar waiting to welcome you.

Originally a hotel, the building sat empty for several years until 2022, when the Cove was renovated, restored and reopened with a new lease of life. It has quickly gained a reputation for excellent, elevated pub food with local chef and restauranteur Nick Hales leading the kitchen.

In 2023 it was featured on The Times 50 Best Summer Pubs, and given a glowing review by Grace Dent in The Guardian Observer.

The food was such high quality, a beautiful menu and we all enjoyed our dishes. The staff were really accommodating and friendly, we’d eat at The Cove every week if we could.

My wife and I enjoyed a late lunch at The Cove yesterday which was delicious. We were attended by courteous and helpful waitresses. The menu was varied and interesting and the food obviously prepared from fresh ingredients and the drinks list equally copious. The ambience was pleasant. A pair of folk singers were engaged later in the evening which we stayed to listen to and were happy we did. They were very professional and entertaining. All in all it was a nice experience and we shall be returning there next Sunday for lunch and later to hear another established folk singer peddling his wares.

My family and I had a Sunday roast at The Cove, the food was very good, the service excellent, the atmosphere great as we sat outside in the lovely pretty garden. Overall we felt very looked after and had a very pleasant experience and will be back for more soon.

We had a fantastic meal at The Cove My husband said it was the best sea bass he had ever tasted!
