The Courtyard offers a warm farmhouse feel in the heart of Northumberland. Situated in Pegswood, the historic building which dates back to early-1900s, sits on the main route to Longhirst, once a home of. “Old King Cole”. Steeped in history, and influenced by the bistros of rural Italy, The Courtyard is certainly a place to visit.

Matt Hudson, head chef, brings a wealth of experience and a stellar reputation, having made a significant impact in the culinary world with his exceptional talent. His innovative and flavourful dishes have not only delighted diners but also earned him numerous accolades. Under his leadership, two gastro pubs in the North East were recognised in The Guardian's prestigious list of Best Gastro Pubs.

Matt is an ethical chef that likes to cook head to tail, leaving no waste from an animal. His commitment to using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients aligns perfectly with our philosophy of providing high-quality, sustainable dining experiences.

Having done new restaurant - they coped very well. Yes service was slow but expected that. Food was outstanding - will go back. Pegswood you have something good and I hope you will appreciate what you have. Courtyard- very well done for 1st week - onwards and upwards- wish you well and see you soon. Lovely staff xx

Food was amazing and the staff very attentative the wait for the food was a little delayed all courses. All in all very reasonable. Need to get some proper napkins.

We’ve just got home after enjoying a fabulous lunch. My husband and I opted for two staples of the pub/bistro menu as a bit of a litmus test; fish and chips and cheeseburger and chips. We were not disappointed by the quality or cooking of the food. Both of us agreed that our respective dishes were absolutely delicious with the chefs attention to detail in relation to the accompaniments and sauces took our food to another level from the typical. It is wonderful to have a great place to eat on our doorstep and will definitely be back. We wish the whole team the very best of success and would encourage everyone to call in; you won’t regret it.

The restaurant is gorgeous, can’t believe how good a job they have made of it. Booked through opentable which was painless. Greeted nicely at door & shown straight to table. Ordered pint of cider for me & mocktail for wife. Both hit the spot. After long deliberation we both went for the hog burger which came with proper chips, red cabbage & a jam with small pieces of bacon & chilli. There were other things on the menu which I would have chosen ( unusual for me) but the burger & accompaniments were pure quality & beautifully cooked, compliments to the chef. No room for the lovely looking puddings as too full. All in all a very good experience & will be back soon. P.S. plenty parking.

Fantastic new cafe resteraunt opened in our small village . Clean and fresh keeping old.features of the building alive. Staff friendly and efficient, ambience perfect. A few minor teething issued that all resteraunts go through in thier 1 st few days if opening. All in all a 9 out of 10.x

Monday and Tuesday at the Courtyard are all about the Charcuterie boards. The selection of different boards is really good and the atmosphere was very relaxed. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and the venue itself has been complete to a very high standard with lots of unique touches that make it feel cosy and inviting.

Beautifully finished new restaurant, very tasteful and feels like a great place to be. Staff attentive and polite, food top quality and inspired, chef clearly very passionate and talented. Music level perfect - even saw the manager turn it up as it got busier, knowing that the correct volume /atmosphere is very important. Lovely touched in decor, even in toilets. Prices quite high but as long as they reflect the quality and service then it is fair.
