   Booked for a special occasion. The staff went above and beyond all our expectations. Would not hesitate to recommend.

   I had really high expectations for The Court and had wanted to try it since it's opening. Booked a table for 9 for a business night out, where colleagues had come from Southampton as out guests. We arrived at the time the booking was for, which was 8pm, and ordered food fairly promptly, however, by 10pm we had only had our starters which were appalling. My partner ordered prawn cocktail, you choose a half pint or pint of prawns; he chose a pint, and it was hideous. It was a layered type of affair, in an old school pint glass with a handle which was quirky enough, but it had a tomato/bloody mary style sauce at the bottom inch of the glass, then a 2" layer of shredded iceburg lettuce, then the prawns. Other than the two larger, part shelled prawns on the side as a garnish, the small prawns were awful, clearly from a freezer; tiny, watery & chewy - all for the bargain price of £18! We would have been better getting a ready made pot from M&S or the likes - everyone else's starter was shocking! When we finally decided to leave at 10pm, my partner told the host, who protested we had only arrived at 9pm. I told him that it was 8pm, he argued it was 9pm, until I got my phone out and showed him the booking, which was indeed 8pm. I can't really understand how he mistook how long we had been there as the place was virtually dead, so it couldn't have been because he was so busy?! In response to this and the complaint, the chef came out very abrasively and told us the order wasn't put through until 8.35pm. Fair enough but it was now 10pm and we had asked the server repeatedly for an update. We weren't the only table complaining either, two others sent food back also, so there was a theme, but 2 hours from arrival and still no main course isn't acceptable. The chef's response was "that's how long it takes to cook food my friend" - uhmm, no, it isn't and shouldn't take that long. Unfortunately when we left we didn't have many options due to time so took our guests to McDonalds!!

   Breakfast was nice, but getting someone to take our order took a while, as did getting drinks to the table. It is expensive for wgat you get, but as a special occasion it was nice. The hot drinks are expensive, £5.50 for a black americano is a bit steep even for a 5* in Edinburgh. The Sheraton just a few mins walk away is also a 5* and the same coffee is £3.50 there. Although this area of the hotel had undergone a massive change, I personally don't think it is for the better. Peacock Alley was stunning with the peacock light on the wall but go in that area now and you could be in any nice hotel. This area has lost a lot of character and appeal.

   Wow, what a lovely afternoon. The staff were excellent and being aware it was a reservation for my mums 70th, the service was 10/10. The food, drink and atmosphere was truly amazing, thank you so much for making a special day even better!

   Very hard to find the address took us to address 15 minutes away. The food and drinks were great.

   Outstanding afternoon tea. Fabulous selection of savouries followed by a beautiful presentation of scones and cakes.
