Welcome to the Chequers Inn, a unique Sussex gastopub with featuring in the AA, Michilin and MasterChefs of Great Britain guides. We have an outstanding reputation for fine food, excellent wines and handpicked local ales.

    Had a good meal here. A little bit more choice for main courses beyond basics would have been nice. Good service and ambiance.

    Excellent eating at the Chequers; have yet to be disappointed. Good menu, not too long, with variety of choice and reasonably priced. Our meals were delicious; staff attentive and welcoming. All in all, we were delighted to have eaten at The Chequers, as we have done a quite few times now. Highly recommended.

    I had booked a table for 5 people for lunch on Wednesday 28th August at Chequers, Rowhook. As it was so hot, we had drinks on the terrace first, whilst our order was taken. We then went inside the premises to have our lunch. We are a group of five friends who enjoy an annual get-together at this pub. The meals were good and it was a perfect experience. Unfortunately , when we received the bill, one of us noticed that the management had charged us for three smoked salmon and prawn salads, whereas only two had been ordered and consumed. This error accounted for a £15.95 overcharge. Once brought to the attention of the waiter, this mistake was quickly remedied. However, how often does this occur and was it a genuine error? Customers should be vigilant and check their bills for mistakes or scams. A similar error occurred last year when we met up, over an expensive glass of wine. Apart from the overcharging, our lunch was an enjoyable experience.

    The area is so loud that it made it uncomfortable for me in the end couldn’t wait to leave. It was extremely busy and I think too much so for the waitresses. Having said that the food was amazing.

    I took my elderly dad for Sunday lunch, and the staff were very accommodating and patient with him. We’ll be back.
