Paul Friedman is a Master Chef with over 40 years of experience in the restaurant industry,having owned and operated over 50 successful restaurant concepts in South Africa, Germany, and the U.S. Paul began his career as a manager and worked his way up to franchise owner, then Director of Operations.
He opened Paul's Pizza Shops - a nationally recognized pizza concept in Northwest Houston, Texas in 1994.
Paul later developed a new concept, becoming the Executive Chef, CEO and partner at Peli Peli - a nationally recognized South African Fusion Restaurant which opened in 2009 in Houston, Texas. Having retired from Pelipeli in 2018 he has returned to his original location at Vintage Park with his latest concept The Chefs Table.
Chef Friedman says this is by far my best creation yet and I hope to leave a legacy here for my children and grandchildren to be proud of.

    Our server, while trying to be attentive, was off course. I just hate a server offering recommendation without being asked. This lady was unknown to us and to start offering recommendations not knowing if we were meat eaters or vegetarian is thoughtless. It got worse when she wanted to discuss how I like my meat cooked. Then! After my second spoonful of Gumbo, she appeared to ask how it was. Out of politeness I said OK, but had she waited until I had 4 or so spoonfuls, I could have told her it was a bit salty. That may suit other palets. I cannot recommend the Impala Filet. It was presented as 8 strips of meat, not as a filet. The 8 pieces ranged from well done to rare….ALL OF WHICH WERE TOUGH! It was a work out for my jaw muscles. I had one bite of the rare piece and left the remains of that piece. No matter how it is cooked, it is a TOUGH piece of meat. Not being served as a filet, this could have been any cut of meat from any animal. I know that is a tall statement. Just for the record, I have had wild filet cuts in Zimbabwe, South Africa and Malawi. The monkey sauce was delicious as were the stuffed Pappadews. $8 for a dozen SMALL sweet potato fries is outrageous. Then on my second glass of wine, our server missed my glass while pouring and a major spill occurred. Luckily nothing on our clothes. After clean up the new returned glass still had wine remains on the base. All 3 of our wine glasses used had a “film” on the top outside presumably caused by dishwasher use. While my wife was still eating dessert and I had still much wine in my glass, our server presented the bill to the table. No offer of coffee or after dinner drinks. We have dined here a dozen or more times over the years going back to when it was known as PeliPeli days with the same owner. We had not planned this venue for my wife’s birthday but had received a $20 birthday gift card in the mail from the restaurant. On reflection, we should have ignored the offer. Going to the original venue tonight

    The experience was fantastic. It was our first time trying this restaurant and we were not displeased. The food quality was excellent. The south African cuisine was a surprise but a very pleasing surprise. We really enjoyed the food and the ambience, and we will definitely be back again.

    Wonderful as always. I had 2 business associates in from Philly & Atlanta and they were thoroughly impressed. Great wine & drink selection.

    This was a fantastic dining experience. Everything from the service to the food was great! My only negative is that it was a little too dark. However, I will be back again when I return to Houston.
