Chef Collaborative Series

Monique Ruvolo started her professional culinary journey at Cafe Allegro in the early 2000s. At the same time, she and her best friend from college, Nicole Payne, started Above & Beyond Catering. Monique grew up in New Jersey as a first generation Egyptian and was inspired by her family's Middle Eastern cuisine and the variety of international flavors in the area. Nicole is a Pittsburgh native & Italian American. Together, they love to create a fusion of flavors and culture and share their love of food and people with their community. So, in 2018, they opened Above & Beyond Kitchen in their neighborhood of Baldwin, offering private events, pop-up dinners, cooking classes, scratch made dine-in meals and take away baked items

We ate on the patio with the fountain in the foreground. Lovely location, so relaxing. Our server was outstanding.

I had a fantastic experience at The Cafe Carnegie! I ordered a Taijin Bloody Mary from the bar which was absolutely perfect. We had the Deviled Eggs as an appetizer, the gravlax and crispy capers make for a delicious twist on the classic deviled egg preparation. For the main course I ordered the Parisian Gnocchi and my guest ordered the Chopped Chicken Salad. The gnocchi was bursting with flavor and prepared to perfection and my guest thoroughly enjoyed his salad. Our server Kristy was very attentive and accommodating. Her demeanor was pleasant and we felt valued and appreciated as customers. Menu prices were extremely reasonable and each dish had an elegant and artistic preparation that paired wonderfully with a day at the art museum. This was one of the best lunch spots I’ve encountered in the city and is absolutely worth checking out whether you are planning to visit the museum or not. All in all we had a near perfect experience that I would highly recommend to anyone visiting or living in the Pittsburgh area.

Excellent service and my chopped chicken salad was very good. I asked for more salad dressing and they brought it right away. Liked having option of 5oz or 7 oz for a glass of wine also. All in all excellent!

If you’re going to this wonderful museum then stop at the cafe for a bite to eat. My club sandwich could have been really good but their home-baked bread fell apart. Lovely place to dine however.

A friend and I have visited the cafe in the past and found the food particularly wonderful. We were very disappointed in the quality of the food when we had lunch there in the last week, July 2024. The food was poory prepared, unappetizing and bland. One serving was very small. I would not eat there again unless I knew there was a change in the kitchen. The Carnegie is a Pittsburgh gem. It's Cafe should reflect that status and not tarnish the Museum's image

Nice atmosphere, pleasant after visiting after the museum. A bit loud for conversation. Recommend varying the menu from time to time or perhaps a special offering. Servers are pleasant.

Loved sitting outside by the fountain, so refreshing on a summer day. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the waiter, John, was terrific.
