Good food & service but restaurant & bar virtually empty so packed any sort of atmosphere.

I visited the Butchers Arms for the first time with my family , including my son and his twelve week old baby. We were made most welcome and had a delicious leisurely lunch. Thank you.

Booked on the Friday so that we could try the Portuguese fixed menu. On arrival we were greeted by a very friendly man and asked if we wanted a drink. They was out of parvha so I had madri. Two of the drinks my wife asked for weren’t available so in the end she had a rose blush. We then sat down and ate as given the menus and realised apart from one other table with two people we were the only ones there. Shocking for a Friday night. We were given menus but it was the a la carte menu. I said we’ve come for the Portuguese set menu only to be told that they wasn’t doing it because not enough people had booked so it wasn’t worth getting the ingredients in. He said the hadn’t done it in 3 weeks. Perhaps they could have contacted me and let me know or put it on social media that they wasn’t doing it. The food me and my wife had was ok. My lamb was melt in the mouth although I felt there was too many black beans. Service was good but by then we was the only ones in there. I got the bill and it was £7 for my madri and £10 for a glass of wine. 5 minutes down the road a pint of madri is £5.60 and a glass of wine £7. If the place was heaving then you would think they’re obviously doing something right but for us to be the only people in there in a Friday is sad to see for a once great restaurant. The food was just ok and very overpriced. I wouldn’t rush back until I hear or see that they’ve improved.

We visited as a group of six for a celebration meal with business partners. The restaurant was very quiet and there appeared to be only one member of staff serving at the bar, restaurant and pouring drinks at the table. The service was very good considering but the restaurant lacked any atmosphere. The food was good quality but the presentation was quite basic for the price. Having not been to this restaurant for a few years, we were very disappointed at the changes seen from when the previous owner ran the restaurant for many years. It has lost that 'special meal feel' that we always enjoyed in the past.

I brought my Mother here 2years ago and it was great, however this time was not. This used to be a vibrant place and we were very disappointed as there was virtually nobody there. One waiter was enough to look after all of us, though he was exceptional! The food was very good however and the wine also but will not be returning, such a shame as it was once a real treat to dine here.

Food was lovely , I wouldn’t say exceptional or outstanding - the service was from a lovely gentleman however forgotten drinks order on 2 occasions , a sauce for mains ( it didn’t ever arrive) , no wine menu given just expected more - from reputation. It wasn’t busy and was the only people left in there by 10.15 on a Friday night :( so the atmosphere was a bit too quiet , The meal was an expensive treat as husbands 40th birthday - would I go back ? Probably not in a rush ….. could have been nicer in Many ways

Hadn’t been for many years, and will definitely go back. Service was excellent, food and portions were very, very good.
