Brushmill’s is a unique structure in a lovely location. The main dining area is comfortable and, at least this night, quiet. The 3 or 4 different menus—drinks, wine/beer, select wines, cocktails, food— were a bit overwhelming. The wine by the glass selections were average at best, but their prices are fair. The food selections were broad, although few vegetarian options, and the food, especially chicken and desserts, was very good. Our server was well-informed and charming, but food preparation seemed very slow—nearly 3 hours for a party of five. Fortunately, we had much catching-up to do, so the pace was detract from our enjoyment.

The food was delicious but the service was disappointing. We were a party of two who only ordered one round of drinks, dinner and dessert but we were there for over 3 hours due to very slow service. The restaurant was not busy at the time we visited and there seemed to be plenty of staff, but we sat for almost 45 minutes after finally finishing our meals before our server ever came over to check on us and to bring the dessert menu.

We loved our first visit here. However this visit we were sat in the smaller room with the bar. The acoustics are horrible and we could barely hear ourselves over the echoes from the diners at the tables to our left and right. Ask for the small dining room or the downstairs bar. Also, if you have tickets the Goodspeed, arrive VERY early. We missed the opening of the 8pm show. Our reservations were at 6pm. Not enough time. The server said “don’t come on a busy night next time” which was an inappropriate response. The food is excellent.

Absolutely perfect ambiance, had a well prepared meal by the waterfall. The restaurant is beautiful and first class with bar, wine bar and several different seating venues. A must to try for any occasion.

Fabulous food and service. Owner is on site and attentive. The renovations of the old Brushmill and the owners commitment to keeping the history on display and respecting the architecture of the building is commendable.

I love this restaurant. The food is excellent and the decor is attractive. It is conveniently located close to theatre at Goodspeed in Chester and East Haddam. Last night, the service was a little slow for some reason. And the server was not sufficiently sensitive about interrupting conversation. Too often she stopped one of our party mid sentence just to ask "everything OK here?" She's not alone -- many servers do this. I'm sure it comes from a good place. But...Sometimes I wish they'd hang back a bit and just keep their eyes open for non verbal cues that something is needed. Otherwise, a wonderful evening at the Brushmill!
