The Boathouse at City Point with a sweeping vista of the Appomattox and James rivers features high-end interior design elements, private dining for large groups, patio dining and an outdoor bar. Our patio tables are some of the most coveted seats in town, with the chance to take in an expansive waterfront view while enjoying selections from our menu of contemporary seafood classics. Traditionally we have not guaranteed seating, but now through OpenTable Experiences, we are able to set aside a few of our best tables each night. The $5/pp fee reserves seating at one of these tables. In the event of inclement weather, your reservation fee is transferable to another available date. Reservation fee is non-refundable.

Our server was so sweet and told us she was still training but that didn’t stop her from going above and beyond <3 she was awesome!

Excellent views of the river, beautiful outdoor tables overlooking the water. Very well designed interior, taking advantage of the location on the waterfront. Bustling marble bar, again with a view of the water, boats, and shore. Service was not first rate. It was almost inattentive. We were there early on a Thursday evening, so the restaurant wasn't packed, just pleasantly filled. Our food, two dinner salads with added protien, took a long time to be served. The Caesar was very good, but the crabcake was overly bready. The arugula and blueberry salad was adaquate, but the shrimp addition was tough and overcooked. Parking is on-site, but I would imagine that if it were busy, it could be challenging because of the limited space along the riverfront. If you go, in my opinion, you should go for the view. It's the star here.

normally the food is very good, but this time the food was mediocre at best. very disappointed.

They were clearly having issues of some kind. All the tables around us were waiting extended periods of time for food (one table waited an hour after ordering). We waited 10 minutes after our reservation time to be seated, despite the restaurant being half empty and *having a reservation* We had to remind and ask after our mimosa bar, our oysters and coffee arrived and were finished before the mimosas arrived. We waited outside and ended up moving tables inside before our food arrived. When it did arrive, it was pretty satisfactory. All in all, we should have stayed home and made our own food, it would have been better and a fraction of the cost. The staff were obviously dealing with a lot of issues somewhere, but this was a horrible restaurant experience.

I have been to the Boathouse before, but it has been a year or two so I figured we would try the one in Hopewell for my wife’s birthday. Got there and we’re seated on time. The drinks came out and were delicious, we ordered appetizers(calamari & oyster Rockefeller) which was also delicious. For whatever reason, we both decided to order steak which is where this review turns upside down. We both ordered our steaks medium. When they came out my wife’s steak, it was incredibly raw. Like, seared on both sides for half a minute raw. My steak was the opposite and was cooked probably 10 minutes past its time and was hard as a rock. Of course, it is my wife’s birthday so I want to enjoy my meal with her. We send her steak back and wait another 15 minutes for another one which was still about 5 minutes under. I would say that it’s our fault I mean who goes to a seafood spot to order steak? But anyways, I will never go here again. For $200 we could’ve went somewhere that had a chef that knows how to cook steaks. Honestly, I would give our experience a 2/10. I will never eat here again.

We went to the bar prior to our meal and it was packed with happy hour goers and our bartender was clearly not very experienced. She was nice but service took forever and she had a lot of trouble focusing on one party at a time. It took us 20 minutes to get a drink and the man next to us said he has waited 40 minutes for his steamed shrimp to come out - and neither of us could get our bill when we asked. Clearly the kitchen was also struggling. Service was better when we were seated but definitely not the quality you’d expect when paying close to $40 for some entrees. The outdoor deck is beautiful but we noticed that an extra $5 was being charged to make a reservation out there!!! This was our second time visiting this Boathouse location and only had a similar experience the first time.

Waitress was great. Salmon was over cooked. Food and desert took way too long to come out. The 1.5 hrs we spent there was mostly waiting
