Welcome to The Boat Inn.

The Boat Inn Penkridge was built at the same time as the Staffs and Worcs Canal in 1779 and is one of the old ‘Gateways’ to the Village, for many years it was the first or last stopping point, as locals and visitors travelled along the Cannock Road.

Now a modernised Gastro-Pub & Restaurant, serving a range of menus including traditional hearty British meals, Bottomless Brunch, Afternoon Teas and Sunday Roasts.

Sat at table for 30 minutes and had no service for food or drinks. Walked out and no staff acknowledged or noticed. Bar staff stood talking and took ages to take orders. Very poor service.

I’ve been using the boat for a while, meal always good portions, but since it’s had a change of staff, meal are now controlled portions, they are cutting back on the meal sizes and for how much they cost it was a big disappointment. If you order belly pork, you’d expect cracklin, well me and my friend didn’t get any, the pudding we ordered with custard, well what can I say, I had to ask for more custard because it came in a very small amount. Very disappointing with the whole thing and have to consider if I will be returning.

Ordered Steak cooked Medium Rare, was cooked medium, chips were oven chips. Additional egg was over cooked.

Food was good but would have liked better desert menu which had only 4 deserts in total with one not available . Had to keep asking for cutlery and staff would reach over food instead of walking round. Passed cutlery to customers to hand out. Just little things which make a difference.🙂 Think with experience it will improve.

Food came out separately so my husband had finished his before my meal had even come out and his side dish which was as too late. I ordered a cappuccino which more like a black coffee and cold. Couldn’t get out quick enough and will not be returning.

Initially understaffed, but once they turned in it was quite pleasant and attentive service. Food portions just right and tasty, although stuffing ball on Sunday dinners was a little rock-like. A lot of gravy.

Very nice Sunday lunch, large portion, tasted home cooked. Enjoyed it very much. Service couldn’t have been better, staff very attentive. Will return next time we’re passing on the boat.
