A Historical Coaching Inn with Traditional bar and a formal dining room; both with its own character.

We serve a great selection of pub classics, using as much produce from the nearby Ripley Castle Estate & Gardens as possible. Our chefs are constantly inspired to create special dishes to take advantage of the 2000 acre Estate and extensive Walled gardens produce.

We serve a selection of popular local real ales and have guest beers on a regular basis including some rare gems, so there is always a reason to pop into the bar.

There is a well structured and varied wine list suitable for all levels of wine drinker from affordable afternoon drinking through to more powerful and exquisite wines, which can be matched to our dishes to create a full dining experience.

We cater for any number of guests from couples to larger parties, families and dog friendly tables in the bar.

Please note we are unable to reserve tables outdoors.

Really unfortunate as the bar and outside looks lovely but the food is just not good! I even asked for my burger to be well done and it was raw.. couldn’t eat it :/ I’d go for a drink but avoid the food!!

First thoughts were regards welcome and service from the female working that evening. Just super! So friendly, patient, considerate and attentive throughout. Just what you need. The table was perfect, in a quiet spot for my friend and my elderly dog, area was spacious and clean. The overall ambiance is relaxing there is no pressure upon you. The food was ‘good’ delicious tart from the starter options paired with chips and roast root vegetable side. The veg in my opinion were overly dry, unseasoned and withered in appearance, yet edible. Chips this time unlike last time that were served up over fried and dark. Overall it’s ‘good’ but food does tend to be the thing in small measures that lets the experience down. Also did not appreciate my dog being offered biscuits without being asked first. Lovely to do but safer to ask owner first.

Not a very good experience. 6 of us placed in the bar area with dogs, thought we would be in restaurant Disappointing menu. My chicken Parmesan burger was just overcooked crispy chicken breast with a smear of mayonnaise on the bun, they forgot to put on the Parma ham , which I hadn’t really started eatin when waitress asked if all was ok. The hand made chips as menu were definitely not, pale and not cooked enough frozen chips., with a little pot of coleslaw. Not worth the £18 charge When waiter finally came to clear table I mentioned where was my Parma ham he came back and said chef sends his apologies Being a group of six none of us wanted to complain and spoil the evening but all said after it wasn’t good and definitely won’t eat again although we do call regular for a drink.

The food and service plus the decor of the Boars head was very good but unfortunately the bar area where we were seated was full of scruffy dressed workmen who smelled the area out of what I can only describe as a tarmac aroma l literally had to shout across the table to my wife so she could hear what I was saying because they were talking that loud throughout our meal This came as quite a surprise to me as on the website it said smart casual dress. I was going to complain but as it was my wife’s birthday she didn’t want me cause a fuss but I the staff could have spoken to the guys to keep it down a bit out of respect of people eating

We were staying and dining at the boars head, we were told to pay for drinks and food before we went up to our room. We had our meal sat in lounge to have a drink, and the waiter came up to my husband with the bill another waiter following with card machine saying we now needed to pay. It was embarassing as the lounge went silent we were made to feel like theives.

Disappointed with the quality of the food at The Boars Head in recent months. The staff are as lovely and as attentive as always and you can't fault them (in fact they look over-worked as we had to wait for drinks for a while), The food sadly didn't make the grade. The menu needs a revamp as the choice is very limited, some of the food was bland and our children's meals look liked somebody had popped out to Asda for them. It's such a shame as this was always renowned locally as a notable gastro-pub. I hope it gets the TLC it deserves soon.

Good atmosphere, food was ok the dining room felt like an afterthought as if it was in temporary use, no linen table cloths, sauce served in its bottle generally drab. Service was excellent.

My fish pie was the best I’ve eaten and my husband’s meat pie also fabulous. No hesitation whatsoever in recommending the venue and the food.
