A resplendent thatched-roof Inn, located in the heart of Devon, two miles from the coastal town of Sidmouth. With eight recently renovated rooms, the Blue Ball is a snuggly, seaside treat of a place. Locally sourced seafood specials are the order of the day, supplied by renowned Cornish fishmonger Flying Fish, coupled with a well-stocked bar of real ales, liveners & pick me ups! Our cosy corners, eccentric finishing touches and curiosities make for quite the venerable experience. Only heightened by our splendid rear garden which promises to provide a welcome haven.

After dinning here for many years, unfortunately on this occasion our meals were very disappointing. We ordered a lamb dish and found the lamb inedible. It was difficult to cut and impossible to chew. We drew this to the waiters attention and asked him to mention it to the chef and we received no feed back. This experience has made us reluctant to return.

An enjoyable experience, very friendly staff and good food, my wife and I both opted for the lamb from the comprehensive lunchtime menu, a good choice as the lamb was beautifully cooked we will certainly be back..

Fourth visit here and it’s been excellent on all occasions. Friendly staff, efficient service and great food. Easy to park with a huge car park opposite.

The pub itself is very pleasant and comfortable. We came with some friends and were looking forward to a pleasant lunch experience. There was only one draught beer available which wasn't to our friends taste. We found the menu difficult to choose from and when the food did arrive it was underwhelming. The serving staff need to be taught how to serve customers. The actual 'open table' experience was excellent

Thank you for your review, i am sorry that at that point we only had two draught beers on that was doom bar and Mad goose. at the time the otter had gone so we need to clean lines to have a really nice beer for the customer. as for the service i am sorry you had a bad experience with our server. if you would like to email us why it needs looking at we can put the issue right. info@blueballsidford.co.uk Thank you Jason & Vicki and the blue ball team

As usual the good was excellent. The staff where friendly and attentive. However the food did take a very long time to arrive. Luckily we where not on a schedule so it did not matter.

Having visited the Blue Ball in previous years had expected better. Not sure if the kitchen knows what tempura usually looks like but it wasn’t what one expects: almost non-existent batter only evident from the slight crunch. If one orders fish and chips don’t choose mushy peas. I gave up after trying to chew through what might have been a bit of pea pod. More care and attention to the food would be appreciated. Why didn’t I point this out to staff at the time? Didn’t want to spoil a special family meal.

Thank you for your Review, I am sorry you had a bad experience we normally don't have problems with mushy peas this is something i will bring up with the supplier its always good to tell us on the day so we can get photos so it can be sorted, as for the Tempura it is a light batter so you get a slight crunch. next time you come in then please ask for myself jason so i can put the things right. thanks jason & Vick and the blue ball team

Was able to look at the menu and book on line. Staff were really helpful - they even brought a bowl of water for our dog! Food and service was excellent.

Probably won't return for a little while. Because we are currently having to bring our remaining dog when we go out, we had to sit in the back area which is rather dingy. The starters were fine - we both had smoked salmon - but my wife had fish and chips - there was a lot of batter but the fish was noticeable by its absence.

thank you for you review. we have had to separate the dogs into the dog area this is because some people do not want to eat with a dog so instead of saying no dogs at all we wanted to keep everyone happy, its only a small area that you cant go into with a dog. the rest of the venue is dog friendly. thanks jason & Vicki and the blue ball team.
