Serving fresh, bold and innovative food that reflects the history of New Bedford and celebrates the New Bedford fishermen, their catch and their culture.

Our menu focuses on local fishermen’s catch of the day, old school seafood favorites and a sprinkling of modern seafood interpretations. Menu ranges from raw bar, to warm and cold lobster rolls, baked cod, bacon wrapped scallops, bouillabaisse and grilled NY Strip.

Large bar and spectacular views of the artful New Bedford Fishing Fleet. Large covered and heated deck overlooking the fishing boats and harbor. Centrally located beside the Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Ferries. Large parking lot.

And, of course, the hospitality is second to none. Service is what built the business.

The mussels Mozambique were incredibly delicious. I have gotten them several times before and they have never disappointed me. We also enjoyed the calamari which was cooked to perfection. Had my dessert first… a yummy pistachio martini. Server was efficient and pleasant. Two thumbs up!

We live in CT and decided to meet a Massachusetts friend at the Black Whale for lunch, based on a good experience a few years back. It did not disappoint; the food and service was excellent. Worth the drive for both parties.....we'll be back!

Had and outstanding time. The food was superb! My filet melted in my mouth and could use just a butter knife to cut it!

The Black Whale was excellent. The service was perfect, and the food was delicious. My date ordered the Salmon with sweet potatoes, and I ordered the Ribeye with green beans and Mac & Cheese Au gratin. My only complaint would be the fact that my steak was overcooked. I ordered medium rare, and it came well done. But honestly, it wasn't much of an issue because the steak was perfectly seasoned and deliciously juicy. I savored every bite. I will definitely be going back to the Black Whale.

Marguerita was our server and she was fantastic. The food was delicious, Portuguese Cod, Lobster Rolls and Chicken A la Vodka. Always a great place with consistently good food and service. Thanks Black Whale

We were a big group out on the patio - it was warm and comfortable despite being cold outside! Sushi was excellent and cocktails were great. Kid friendly, consistent experience there!

Great food and drinks, great atmosphere. We received a free app unexpectedly after a mixup with our reservation which was really nice. Our server Margarida was outstanding. We will always be back!
